Back after over a year off

I'm back playing OOTP after taking almost a year and 1/2 off. I played OOTP9 only for a short time. I really like OOTP10.

As soon as I get everything "tweaked" the way I want it -- my Western Baseball League (real 50/60s players playing in a fictional 12 team league) will be alive and breathing again.

Mantle, Mays, Koufax, etc ... I'll never forget those guys! I've missed them and I've missed OOTP.

Welcome back. I just returned recently myself. OOTP9 and OOTP10 have both been very good. I'd love to see continued improvement on historical play in OOTP11, especially when it comes to the AI evaluation of future player value.

I like your fictional league idea. I've started a new career game in 1935 with the hapless Boston Braves. I'm trying to manage all the games, though, so I'm not sure how much of a career I'll really have. It will probably take me a number of weeks to play through a season.

I've almost got my league tweaked the exact way I want it. I think I've run 15 or more test leagues over about 150 years or so. My stats are just about perfect and my financials are almost there as well.

It takes a lot of time to get things right -- but it should be worth it!

I'll start the league in 1958 and sim until the beginning of 1962. I'll then take over a bottom feeder and try to build them up.

1962 is my all time favorite BB year. I loved the "Whiz Kid" Phillies of '62. They came on strong the last two months that year. And then in 1964 they blew it big time losing ten in a row during the last two weeks of the season! I cried every morning when I picked up my papers for my paper route a saw where they had lost again.

Just out of curiosity, what are the names of the 12 teams in your league?

Are your tweaks designed to make your game more like the real life late 1950s baseball world, or are they designed mostly to suit your personal preferences? If they help make your game more realistic, I'd be interested in finding out what settings you're using.

Western Baseball League

Mid West

Chicago Cubs
Minnesota Twins
Kansas City Athletics
Texas Rangers
Houston Astros
Colorado Rockies

Far West

Arizona Diamondbacks
San Diego Padres
Los Angeles Dodgers
San Francisco Giants
Seattle Mariners
Vancouver Sea Wolves

Start 1958 season/players
154 games
No DH (EVER !!!)

Last 20 year "simulated" test results

Leagues Batting Averages -- .273 to .275 (low .265, High .281)
Leagues ERA -- 4.20 or so (low 3.62, high 4.75)

R/G -- 4.7 to 4.8 (I think the lowest was about 4.1 and the highest about 5.4) I don't let the settings change each year. I want a very steady league.

I always play with ratings of 1 to 5 with stars on.
I don't use minors. Only a reserve roster of 25 with a 7 round draft. All kinds of trading allowed. No all star game.

9000 avg att, $ 2 seats and 20% visting gate.
Media $ 300,000 and Cash $ 300,000.
Scouting $ 150,000

Top Super Star -- $ 200,000
Star -- $ 150,000
Good -- $ 120,000. Then it falls at 20K increments.
League Min and Coaches -- $ 30,000

Most Historical modifiers off -- I prefer a "steady state" league.
Somewhat lower HOF requirements. 500 VORP (maybe too low)

Strategic Tendencies -- all normal except 5 man rotations.

1958 League Modifers

Hits -- .970
Triples -- 1.3
HRs -- 1.2
Starting picture stamina -- 1.1

Not perfect. But I feel I'm almost there. BTW, I seem to like the 120 talent change rating. I like to see some surprises. I guess it works.

Anyway, that my WBL starting with '58 players.
