Just a rant
Not sure if you all have seen my various posts first about a saved league with 30 years of sim data that I lost, but then problems with templates I was having. So I finally gave up and decided to recreate my universe from scratch instead of trying to recover the corrupt saved game and/or use a template of the saved game to create the new game. 5 hours of work entering all the various team names, salary/financial info, league totals, FA rules, blah blah...and I'm going to change the start date for one of the leagues and the game freezes and locks up on me. done. 5 hours of work lost. great way to end the weekend.

Hmm, I just checked the code, and changing the start date of a league does nothing 'critical', so the likely reason for the lockup was not OOTP but probably Windows acting up... sorry, this sucks

You're probably right Markus. I haven't had ANY problems with OOTPX or any version prior to that until the past month, then everything went whacky.
I've had the game lock up when changing the date before, but again that was when I was working with a template built off of the saved game that was crashing when finishing a day so I chalked it up to a bombed template. But now that it did the same thing on a brand new from scratch world, it does make sense that its more environmental than code (esp since I searched and haven't found another report of this). Oh well. Back at it tonight or later this week. maybe I'll get my world rebuilt in time to migrate it over to OOTP11.

When constructing an elaborate template, it pays to make several interim saves along the way that you can delete later. Never risk more data than you can lose without pain.

Is there a way to save while creating the game without actually hitting the start game button?

When creating my universe (which took several hours), I'd save the universe as a template at several different points. That was the only way I knew how.

Gotcha. Will have to adopt that. I was trying to stay away from Templates due to my lack of success with my earlier attempt but let's chalk it up to a hosed up league that I created the template from and see if starting from scratch is more successful. Thanks gents.
