That's what happens when you create a product with so many features and options and you have a developer who is listening to the community. It's impossible to please everyone, and having a person there to speak to makes people think 'hey, why not see if we can get this to be optional since i don't really like that'. And anyway, I've been surprised with how well you've been handling all of the people getting annoyed with you. I really didn't think that that would be what makes you snap.

Someone may turn away from the game if something they don't want to be a part of the game isn't optional. You may think that's extreme, but I don't. |

I'm sure Markus could determine if a feature is too much of a pain to be optional. If it isn't worth it to him, he won't do it. As long as people are respectful of Markus when they ask, there is no harm is asking.

Interesting article on how one major league team tests personality before the draft:

It's an issue because at some point it becomes ludicrous to make every last detail of the game, down to ampersands and semicolons, optional. Customization is a beautiful thing, but after a certain point more isn't necessarily better. Design choices need to made and in the pursuit of pleasing every individual's pet customization, development of more important areas of the game could suffer. I'd rather Markus be spending time implementing online play, improving defense modeling, developing a 2D and eventually 3D game engine, etc. than satisfying the 42½ percent of users who prefer a ".5" to a "½".

You know, I'm really getting fed up with all these people who demand the game be a certain way and to hell with those who want to play it another way. For people who don't like them, personality ratings could already be turned off and now people are insisting that we have to read a stupid scouting report to get the info that we could more easily get by sorting and filtering a table? For heaven's sake, if you don't like them, just turn them off. Don't insist that we shouldn't get to play the game the way we want to just because you don't like having another option. I feel like finding out what parts of the game these people like and then sabotaging their favourite parts of the game. We don't need this back and forth.

Actually guys, sports these days do put a number to personalities-- through personality tests. There's an example of personality traits tested in that Baltimore Orioles link I left. Granted, the tests tend to be applied at the beginning of the career.
I really don't care too much either way as long as the ratings can change through out the career. I play in God-mode with an 8 team league. I turn off hit and potential ratings. I do keep the fielding and speed and stamina ratings on. If you turn off the hit ratings, you still get a scouting report on the player's skills. A lot of long-time OOTP-ers like the greater uncertainty in scouting reports sans number ratings. The personality scouting report sans number ratings just seem like an extension of the same thought.
