Promotion/demotion league setup

How did you guys set up a promotion demotion league with minors and everyting?

For me, having lower divisions AND minor leagues seemed kind of redundant. If I were going to do it, I would only have maybe 2 levels of minors in the top division--"Reserve squad" and "Youth Squad", maybe only 1 level of minors in the second division, and no minors below that. Teams in lower divisions don't have large organizations anyway.
I've just run relegation leagues with no minors, and it seems to work fine. Better players from the lower divisions tend to move up when they become free agents.
