Crazy contract
Screenshot of contract
I lost my best starting pitcher to free agency and bid heavily for him during the FA period but was out bid by another team (AI). When I checked his contract (the day he signed), not only did he have a 5 year deal, but also a 6 year extension already. Total deal. 11 years 245 Mil ![]() He is 29 so he will turn 40 his last season. Remaining contract $39,380,000 $36,100,000 $26,230,000 $19,690,000 $19,690,000 Bonus (cy Young) $1,200,000 Extension $26,000,000 $26,000,000 $13,000,000 $13,000,000 $13,000,000 $13,000,000 Bonus (cy Young) $1,200,000 btw, Im using lower "typical" salaries in this league too. Guess they really liked him. Yikes.

I'm surprised that contract was even allowed. I'm not sure a human player could get either of those contracts to be allowed. Also, I didn't even know you could extend so far from the end of a contract. I usually can't under the last year of a contract.
Regarding the amount of the contract, even though you have lower typical salaries, I'm guessing teams have a lot of open budget room and/or boatloads of cash that are impacting what they can spend and what FAs are asking for. |

Yea I didn't think it was possible to extend until the year before the contract expires. I think that this is something that should be looked at. Is 40,00,000 per year normal in your league?

Super star typical salary 12M Star player typical salary 8M Good player typical salary 6M I'm guessing the reason they paid so much was because of my bids. we were going back and forth until he finally signed. I think my final offer looked something like 35M for the first two seasons and 23M the final 3. What surprised me more was the extension being signed simultaneously to the original 5 year deal. like you said, i didnt think it was possible. I mean, I know players will occasionally negotiate during a non contract year, but not five seasons ahead. Screenshot of contract Last edited by edm; 02-12-2010 at 11:59 AM. |

I've extended players who weren't in their last contract year plenty of times. As for contracts, the game wouldn't allow a human team to give out such a contract, as I believe the maximum difference for a contract from year to year is $1,000,000. Thus, I think we have a bug here.
