Names--Civil War
I'm trying to create a Civil War-era league, but I've run into a problem; foreign names. Is there a way short of having to edit the basic name file for all games to remove these names?

I've turned the foreigner percentage to 0, but there are still Americans popping up with hispanic names.

You can try some files from here:
http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...ta-folder.html I did a good bit of research for the names files, taking census data from 1800-1870. The ethnicities file has been updated to include: 36,Historical Asian,0,1000,0,0,0, 37,Historical Hispanic,0,0,0,500,500, 38,Historical African,1000,0,0,0,0, 39,Historical Caucasian,0,0,0,1000,0, So you'd want to use the first_name, nickname, name and ethnicities files, and then edit your nations file to use these ethnicities (36-39) as you see fit. This might work:
Go into Commissioner mode. Go to menu item "manager" - "explore world" Scroll down to United States Select "nation editor" In this window you can set hispanic to 0 percent and instead of U.S. modern, change it to U.S. Historical at 100% -Also make sure there are no foreign players (in game setup) hope this helps, happy gaming, Frank |

Thanks, all.
Quick question: If I replace the name file as you have suggested, start the game, then change the name file back, my Civil War game will have those names and any new ones will have the original games, right?

In general, I believe that if you change the name files at the start of your league, it will use that file to generate names. Swapping back to the original files would mean subsequent players would use the "wrong" names. You'd only want to do that if you had more than one league running. If the Civil War league was the only league you were playing with right now, you shouldn't have a problem. Likewise, if you're in an online league, it shouldn't be a problem since all new players would be generated by the commish machine. By the time you get them, as the non-commish, you'll have the player records with names already generated. The fact that your computer had different name files shouldn't matter. |

Oooh...so there will be issues if I'm running two leagues? I guess I can put one on hold for a little while.

You can have as many leagues as you want using all different names/cities/ethnicities etc. files. Just make sure you have the files you want to use for any new leagues in the database folder before you start your league.

You are aware that foreign names aren't your biggest historical problem, right? Something like the game of Baseball was played during the war almost for sure (although the soldiers didn't write about it much in letters), but the rules weren't written down until several years later.
Also, the rules of the game evolved. At one point there were four strikes. For a little while the pitcher was on the same team as the hitter! But if you're groovin' on it... |

![]() 1871 is really the best year to start, as "professional baseball" didn't even exist before then (except, of course, for the Cincinnati Reds. But that probably wasn't until later in the decade, probably after the war ended.) And players would just come and go as they pleased. Teams weren't even steady, either.
