Weird things that have happened in your league
I just played the 1873 season. 60 game schedule with 8 teams.
Al Spalding won 49 games and led the league in era but he also won the batting title with a .389 avg. However the game awarded Andy Leonard the best hitter award. Would have been really weird if Spalding had won the triple crown for both hitting and pitching. |

I presume he pitched most if not all of the games?
It would have been epic if he'd won the Best Pitcher and best hitter. Hell, if it was me I'd have given him the best hitter award manually lol. |

Yeah teams only had 1 or 2 pitchers. About 16 players to a roster. I wanted to give him the award but i only interfere when i have too. Like making sure each team drafts at least one pitcher. But looking at the statistics page the game probably made the right choice in that leonard seemed to be leading in more stats. Of course Spalding was pitching almost every inning unlike those mama boy pitchers of today.

Presumably OOTP does not even look at Pitchers when "voting" for hitter of the year, and vice versa. I have had guys who batted over .200 points better than the normal guys who did not win the award because they were pitchers.
Let's just say it was a modified player for "fun" and leave it at that. (yes, it was me, I put me into the game as a Babe Ruth type, I pitched every 3 days and played CF or SS on the other days, I was really, really good.) ![]()

I think that award is more for best hitter than a real MVP. I wish they had both awards. But since it is more a hitters award i can agree with Leonard getting it but if it was truly an MVP award i would think Spalding's 49 wins and also being a good batter would have helped him win the award.
BTW i have just completed the 1874 season and Spalding is still a stud. He just won the Cy Young for the 4th time (1871-1874) and his team the Boston Pilgrims just won the Series for the 3rd year out of 4 with Spalding managing. Managers are just name only. Yeah i know Cy Young had not started his career but the game doesnt keep a record of award name changes as far as i know so i just went with the final name for an award. besides the Cy Young award wasnt even around back then. |

Finished 1875 season and Spalding won the Cy Young award for the 5th time in a row. He is also currently 9th in alltime batting avg with .324.
Too bad i have recalc and RAH on so he will probably become a 1b and then retire around 1878. Which will most likely keep Spalding out of the hall if i use the min of 10 active years as rule. I wont do my HOF till 1936 and i will induct the same # of players as in real life for that year. But its gonna be tempting to put Spalding in |

Well all good things come to an end. The game moved Spalding to the bullpen
in 1876 and he only pitched in 4 games. Bummer. But on the bright side he played for his 4th world series champion. |

Yeah i wish the game would show the changing of the award in the history of the league. But does it change in the player's history or does it keep the original award name?
Spalding has now played on his 6th championship team. He was also a 6 time all-star and won 3 gold gloves. One at 1b. |

The history is all written in at the time of the event. So yes, it saves the name of the award in the individual player histories. As noted, it just changes the name in the history function of the game itself, so this isn't so easy to catch.

I would like it if it changed in both the players history and the wards history so it was consistent. I wouldnt like to see the award as the Spalding award in one area and the Cy Young in another.
Is there any way to get the game to change the "retire from retirement" quote to something like the player came out of retirement or the player returned to the MajorLeagues? "retire from retirement" just seems stupid. Boy did this thread get off the subject. Ill see if theres any other odd things that have happened in this league. |
