SP stamina and total innings pitched
I did a search but didn't see anything on this topic, so hopefully this isn't a re-post.
One issue that I find annoying about pitching in this game is that there appears to be non consequence for total pitching load per season. Maybe I'm missing this, but there are routinely teams in my league that pitch on a four man rotations and they end up with pitchers averaging innings in the 300s per year. What bothers me is that there doesn't seem to be any sort of cost for doing this- the pitchers should wear down during the stretch, be more prone to injury, or perhaps end their careers sooner. Maybe this is all programmed into the game, but I don't seem to see it. |

Total workload is not taken into account, as far as I know.

IRL, all players (not just pitchers) typically start out strong, with more endurance, and weaken over the course of a season. OOTP does not attempt to mimic that aspect of the game. All computer sim games have to abstract some elements of what they are simulating, in order to be functional. What OOTP does is average out the endurance/fatigue factor over the whole season. What we get instead of increasing fatigue is increased risk for injury as a result of playing more innings than another player (the more innings you are in the game, the more opportunity for the injury roulette wheel to come up double zeros).
SPs tend to get more IPs than IRL because the game sticks more rigidly to the rotation (another simplification to help the AI). Some OOTPers also believe there is something similar that happens with position players, who don't seem to need as much bench time as they should. AFAIK, no one has really come up with convincing evidence of that. |
