Japanese Free Agents

After running my fictional league for about 30 years, I decided to add a Japanese league, so I added the defaulte one from the template. However, in the offseasons so far, I've noticed that there are several extremely good, youngish Japanese free agents, which I don't want. Is there any way to make it more likely for Japanese teams to keep their free agents? Or any other way to limit the number of 28 - 30 year old stud free agents that leave the Japanese league each year?

I'd suggest going into the League Setup -> Rules for your Japanese league and just increasing the number of years until free agency from 6 to something higher. This may cut off players of a younger age coming over entirely, but it's a way of limiting the flow of Japanese players to those who are older.

It's already set to 9 years as the default setting. It may just be an initial influx of talent, but I don't want to see stars in their prime come over from Japan, it's not entirely realistic.

OOTP Baseball Manual - Rules Page

There are options in the league rules about allowing free agents from other league/allowing fre agents to leave league.

You can select this and you don't have to change FA years.

Right, I know, I'm trying to more closely mimic how it works in the real world - ie, there are free agents, but not many, and they're usually somewhat old (and not in their prime like the ones I'm getting).

Then change it from 9 to 11 or 12.

Another possible way would be to lower the quality of players in the Japan league.

I moved it up to 12 and it is working out great. Try that and let us know how it turns out.

I read an interview with the Japanese commissioner of baseball. He says that the average age of players transferring to MLB teams is dropping and will continue to do so (and that that's not a bad thing). Maybe your universe is just ahead of its time.
