historical simulations

I am a new member and am looking forward to OOTP. I wanted to know if I can run historical simulations with all real teams from the past. Can I make a league with teams from different eras and play them out? Can I manage one team and have the computer manage the rest? Is the game fairly accurate statistically? I would really appreciate any help on this as I am an old timer and I am looking for a game that would do these things. Thanks in advance.

I would also ask if the game is relatively simple to play? Thanks

Historical sims: Yes.
Teams from different eras: Yes. (99% sure on this one)
Manage one team/rest computer: Yes.
Accurate statistically: Depends what you're looking for. If you're looking for Hank Aaron to hit 755 homeruns over his career; it's not likely. If you're looking for Hank Aaron to be a good homerun hitter over the course of his career; yes.

Thanks MorseMoose....Is this a difficult game or is it simple? Would you suggest I wait for version 11 or do you think I should start with version 10?

One of the priorities in the design of version 11 was to make it easier for new players to get started managing a team. This includes giving them more guidance within the game (more than just reading the user manual) about steps to take and things they should be paying attention to. I don't know how successful it will be, but at least the effort is being made

OOTP can very complex, if you want it to be. A lot of the complexity is in the features and options that you can use to tailor a game in ways of interest to you. But you could easily play the game without ever getting immersed in any of that. Plus you can get a lot of help on this forum, if you need it.

Thanks SteveP....I am not looking for complexity....rather the opposite....Just to be able to play out either a season or take teams from different eras and play them out over the course of a season and see how it turns out. Do you feel I should wait for version 11?

Seeing as how it will be released in less than two weeks, you might as well. You can also download the demo for OOTP10 or the free version (which I believe is OOTP8) to start getting your feet wet in the meantime.

In past versions of OOTP there are several pre-made, 'quick start' leagues for those who want to just jump in and get familiar with the game. I'm sure version 11 will also have quick start leagues.

The game has a lot of options and can seem very complicated. But you can certainly just use the default settings. League creation is easy, so you can quickly start over if you don't like the league you are playing.

There are also many friendly and helpful people in this forum who will be happy to give you advice on how to set up your own league once you are ready to move beyond the default settings. Some people even make league templates you can just download and start playing.

I think the fact that OOTP is a game you can 'grow into' is one of its strengths. You can jump in fast if you want, but it can accommodate almost any type of league your imagination can come up with.

jacmar, the game can be pretty simple if you want it to be. OR it can be complex if you want it to be. And the pbp text for playing out games is simply excellent, just about like listening to it on the radio and ver 11 promises to be even better. If I were in your boots I would pre-order 11 to save $10 and, as said, play the ver 10 demo in the meantime.
