How To Make An Active Team Inactive and Vice Versa

Just a quick question. My goal is to have a team active, then inactive for several seasons, and then active again.

For example:

Chattanooga Lookouts, start in 2000, abbreviation CHL and play through the 2004 season. After which I want them to be inactive. Can I just delete their schedule and DFA all their players? If I delete the team, then all the history goes as well, correct? Or can I use the same abbreviation CHL when I reinstate them in 2006? Or is there a simpler way to do things?

If I use the same abbreviation will I retain the history or is that lost once I delete the league?

I don't know if there is a simple way to do it. I don't even know if it is possible. Here is how I'd think to do it, though I've never tried it.

1) Delete their schedule and release all the players.
2) Create new schedules for the rest of the league by hand/some schedule utility.
3) Carry on until they begin playing again, at which point I'd just let the game create a new schedule for the whole league.

If you do try it, you will need to make sure nobody is scheduled to play them. And deleting the team will delete the history as well.
