Should Salary demands and arb estimates be closer

Most players ask for 25 to 40% more to sign a contract than their arb estimates, which are farily accurate.

I rebuilt a team and now have 8 players entering arb. They are all asking 25-40% more then they get in arb if I let arb run. Even if I offer 10-20% over arb estimate, they won't sign. It doesn’t seem to matter if I am trying to buy a year or two of FA, I understand that would cost more, it is the same when I try to lock them up just for their arb years.

Modern game, no add ons.

Some examples

26yr old LF, 1st year arb, estimate 7.2mil, (he gets 7.4) I offered 3 years 29mil and 4 years 41 mil, he says no to both. If I let the next three seasons play out, he gets 7.4, 7.7, and 8.4 mil in arb, I decided to let him go in FA and he signed a 3 year 22mil deal. He would have been better off with either of my deals.

For all other 7 players, I offered more then they get in arb, and all 7 said no. This makes little sense, if they sign they get injury protection and a guaranteed salary without forfeiting any or just 1 year of FA, it is a no brainer.

Is anyone else having similar experiences.

More

Ok,

1B entering 1st year of arb, est 6.3 mil. He was looking for 3 years 31 mil. I offered 4 year 44 Mil he said no. 2 days later he got 6.7 in arb, and was still looking for 3 years 31 million,

So he turned down 44 mil over four years but 2 days later would take a 6.7 mill ard + 3 years 31 mil for a total of 37.7 over four years, he should have taken my initial offer.

This is a common situation.

Yeah, the game's arbitration system needs fixing. Not sure if it's fixed in OOTP11, but it would be nice to see the numbers either line up better, or for there to be a penalty to go to arbitration (ie. player morale decrease).
