Can't Load Online Leagues
I sure hope I can get some help here, because this problem has been driving me up a wall, and it's been over three weeks since I last had any correspondence from the help ticket I submitted...
A month ago I got a new computer, the OS is Windows 7 Home Premium. I transferred over my old ootp10setup.exe file, to install the software on the new computer. I had one license left from my initial purchase, which I used. For the life of me, I cannot get either of my two online leagues to load for me! Whenever I try to load a saved league I get an error message telling me that the world.dat file can't be loaded. I have touched base with both league commissioners and they have made certain all my downloaded league files are as current and up-to-date as possible. I've uploaded all of my OOTP game files to a Dropbox account to allow one of the commissioners to view them, in hopes of pinpointing maybe a game file that was missing, but no dice there-- everything checked out. A big part of me thinks the game itself didn't properly install. I think this might be a big culprit to my problems. Before you tell me I'm crazy, I'll explain why I think the game didn't install correctly-- I can't UNINSTALL the game. When I try to run the Uninstall OOTP 10.exe file, I get an error message telling me that uninstall files can't be found. Any help that can be offered would be much appreciated. One of my two leagues just started a new season (I missed ALL of the offseason activities due to this problem), and my other league is very quickly about to enter the offseason FA signing period. EDIT: Should also mention, I pulled out my old computer (OS is XP) and reinstalled the game using the same installation .exe file, and I encounter the SAME problems. I had run the game without issue on that computer for well over a year, so I dunno what that might say about the .exe file I've got, or whatnot. Last edited by PHP_Mgr; 11-09-2010 at 05:53 PM. this is one of Matt's commishes. Some additional notes/theories that might help.
- I looked at the install log and the app files looks like they installed to C:\Program Files (x86) instead of C:\Program Files - there is no issue with how he unzipped his league files - something appears amiss with the paths which the game is looking for the world.dat when loading a league file. I thought this might be like the virtual store issue OOTP had with Vista and OOTP6 when the league files were still stored in the program files folders...but I couldn't find evidence of that here - the issue is tied to the league files that a user creates (by unzipping or copying and pasting), however any league file created by the game in the same folder works fine. If we can't find the issue with OOTP we need to figure out how to trick the game to recognize the file we unzipped once and then going forward the game will update it w/o issue.

Please, I'm looking for help here. I can't get any responses to my help ticket. I'm extremely frustrated both with the lack of the game working as well as the general lack of help I've gotten from game developers.

Things are now working. A huge thanks needs to go out to Gary, who responded to my second help ticket a couple days ago. We direct connected and he was able to pinpoint my problem.
I didn't have the most up-to-date version of OOTP 10 installed. Probably because I used the same installation .exe file from when I first bought the game (something like a year and a half or two years ago). He got me an installer for the most updated version, and things loaded perfectly fine. THANKS GARY! |
