Draft problem
I started a new 1980 Giants season. I decided I didn't want a regular amateur draft but a draft of just historical rookies. Per the manual, I scheduled the draft after the season was over so the historical rookies would not be available to play until the next season. I also unchecked the regular amateur draft. So I should have a draft after the season which would only be composed of historical rookies.
Unfortunately, after the season was over and the reset occured, both the amateur draft and historical rookie drafts were now checked but I didn't realize it till the draft pool was published. I discovered in my last game that having both drafts does not work properly. The AI does not scout or draft the historical rookies but only the amateur rookies. While I was able to draft either historical rookies or the fictional amateurs. So while the AI was drafting rookie level fictional amateurs, I was drafting the select of the historical rookies which were ready to play in the majors. So I abandoned my last season once I realized what was happening. Now I have the same problem again. So this is my second season with this problem. Is there anyway to force the AI to draft the historical rookies before the fictional amateurs? Is there anyway I can cancel the draft altogether even though the draft has been announced? Are there files which I could possibly merge together to force the AI to consider both historical rookies and fictional amateurs? Any solutions of any sort that can help with this problem? I abandoned my last game because of this very problem. I would hate to abandon another good season. BTW, I am using OOTP8 but the older version OOTP forums appear dead. So I am posting here. Any help appreciated! |

Ok, let me try rephrasing the problem
Since both historical rookies and amateur draft are checked, the game has created two pools of potential players for the draft. The first pool is created by having the historical rookies option checked and is composed of players which made their first historical appearance in the major leagues in this year. The second pool is created by having the amateur draft option checked and is composed of fictional players which are ready to start at the bottom of your minor leagues. The historical rookies are ready to start in the majors and the amateur fictional players are ready to enter the minor leagues and in 4 or 5 years might, maybe, be ready to enter the major leagues. Unfortunately, the AI only recognizes the amateur draft pool of fictional players ready to start at the bottom of your minor leagues. The AI does not recognize the historical rookies ready to enter the major leagues. So the AI will only draft from the amateur pool while I can draft from either pool. I can ignore the historical rookies just like the AI but then they end up dumped into the free agent pool...I assume. Last time this happened I just quit the season, so I am not certain. I can draft the historical rookies but I would have the best of the best historical rookies ready to start on my major league team while the AI was stocking up on fictional amateurs ready to enter the minor leagues. I wonder if it is possible to do two drafts in the same year....one for the amateur fictional and then once the draft is complete, uncheck the amateur draft and reschedule a new draft with just the historical rookies???
