1901 forward Test

Ran a test from 1901 forward, but only got through 1967 due to some kind of error bug. However, Ted williams hit 822 HR's in 23 years of playing. Ruth hit 722. Had FA on with no revenue sharing and imported to actual teams without a draft. Also had stats recalced at 3 yr mark. Pretty impressed so far. I am now running a new test from 1901 forward with no FA and trading and injuries both set to low. Intersting in my first trial that Ruth pitched for first 3 years and then switched to 1B for about 11 yrs before being a RF for his last few years.

In 1911 how many stolen bases did Ty Cobb have? 101 here, and someone else had him at 132 i think. 1911 being the only anomoly. using Lahmans

Cobb had 103 SBs in 1911 for me

Glad to see that you're enjoying the replay.

I hope you're getting pretty good results with your settings. It's much easier to get good results in OOTP2007 than in previous versions. A lot less tinkering and guesswork.

Steve was 103 Cobb's peak season, and did he have any other years so high ? Could you list his top 5 sb totals. There's something funny about 1911 i think.

Scoman's using Gambo i am using Lahman's. What database are you using ?

I simmed 1901 to 2007 last night using Gambo's DB.

Cobb, in 1911, had 88 SB. He ended his career in 1927 with 711.

My HR leaders are; McGwire 905, Ted Williams 855, Barry Bonds 803 and Ruth 771.

Hank Aaron only played 10 years (CEI in 1961) and had 221 HR.

McGwire has the single season HR record with 70 in `98 and `99.

Bizarrely, Don Mattingly only played for 2 seasons in AAA, was released by the Yankee organization in 1981 and retired from baseball. (I always check him in historic sims to see if he got around his injuries)

Ruth played the majority of his career at 1B for me as well, I thought it was just an anomaly as the Red Sox were loaded in the OF, but he stayed at 1B after being traded to the Pirates at the end of his career. Anyone else see this?

Mattingly never did well for me in OOTP 2006. He might have a year or two approaching .300 with 20+ homers and then plummet. Whatever the import metric is obviously doesn't give any extra weight to players whose nickname is the game itself. It's kind of sad to see a guy named "Donnie Baseball" hitting .184 in AA.

In my recent season that started 1901 and is currently in 1997 (I stop it now and then and playout a season or so), Mattingly was a 4 time all-star and 3 time MVP.

He hit .302,.316,.376,.348 and .324 with 18-35 home runs each season.

In 1988 he had a CEI and retired with a .335 average and 174 home runs and 280 doubles.

That's pretty much what happened in real life, except he kept playing through it...what was your ratings recalc set to? Maybe the replay Donnie Baseball decided he didn't want to play at a level lower than that he was used to. I always thought it was interesting that Mattingly applied himself so much to become a great player that his back gave out while Gooden and Strawberry were born with such great talent and their bodies gave out because they didn't respect it enough.

During testing of my DB i had Mattingly (who I always check anyway) retire once in the minors, player about 10 years bouncing around, and make the HOF with just short of 3000 hits.

In my replay Cobb stole 8 bases in 1911 (injured most of the year) and his peak year he stole 88 in 1910.

HR leaders are Ruth with 755 and and Ted Williams had 752. Just 3 short of Ruth but Williams played till he was 44 years old, so he gave it a shot, but fell short. Williams top year was 1945 where he hit 45 HRs. Ruth's best power year was 1921 when he belted 70 HRs. He also batted .396 that year with 204 RBIs.

I am very impressed with the replay value of this game.
