I'm may look dumb, but don't be fooled, I really AM dumb
Hi! I just purchased the game (without checking out the demo) and am having a few problems. Like, where can I find instructions on how to actually play the game. I know this sounds simplistic, but I feel lost, totally lost.
Second, I can't seem to be able to download data from Lahman for historical play. I have an iBook G4 and am able to get the stuff saved to my computer but can't save it to the game. This is all so mind-boggling. i'd like to master this but i'm going to need help. -Radioman2007 P.S. I played S.O.M. for years, including their computer game. |

Here's the manual:
OOTP Manual Here's my historical hint for starting out: Getting ready to make history Glad you found this game. I played in a computer strat league for 22 years and have owned every other text sim on the market. OOTP 2007 sets a whole new standard. You will be rewarded as you tackle the learning curve for this game. The ability to customize the game however you want is just as deep and complex as the real game. Hope you enjoy. Report back later on how it's going for you. And, by the way, nobody should feel dumb about this game. It is very intimidating and has so many choices. Many people on this forum will do whatever we can to help you. We want you to love the game as much as we do, but it does take some commitment. The manual is just as deep and great as the game, the best of ANY game I've ever purchased. We have battists to thank for that and all of the time that he has volunteered and devoted for all of us.

I can help with that since I just downloaded the Lahman database today after playing the game for a week.... and got lost and confused and for like a half hour couldn't figure out how to make it work. The problem that I had was I have the 'game' saved in 2 spots... and where I thought I downloaded the Lahman database.. wasn't really where it was. You don't really 'save' the Lahman database to the game.. you open it under the 'create historical league' when you open up and start a new game. When you go to create a historical league it gives you the opportunity to 'point' the game towards the file that you want to open... and so you'll want to open up the Lahman database using the Master.csv file that you downloaded. Once you do that it will open that file and from that point on you can play the game from the year that you select to start from. Warning: depending on what year you choose and whether or not you choose to download the full historical data... it is a large file and can take a while to open. not a big deal.. but just don't expect it to open in 5 seconds depending on when you start. |
