Sammy Strang
Im in the last week of the first season of a league started in 1903 with Gambo's pure DB (no inaugural draft) and Sammy Strang (3B - Brooklyn Superbas) has been hitting the cover off of the ball all season.
Sammy is hitting to the tune of .414 in 538 AB's, including hitting .474 in July in 114 AB's. Whats amazing about this is that he is only a 6 contact, 5 gap rated player on a 1-10 scale. Those are decent ratings, but not .400+ material One thing I did notice is that Sammy is rated 9 in "bunt for hit", and 196 of his 223 hits have been singles (23 doubles, 3 triples, 1 HR).Is this a fluke season in my league for Sammy ? How is he making out in your leagues ?

Well, I don't really think that the end can be assessed as of itself as being the end because what does the end feel like? It's like saying when you try to extrapolate the end of the universe, you say, if the universe is indeed infinite, then how - what does that mean? How far is all the way, and then if it stops, what's stopping it, and what's behind what's stopping it? So, what's the end, you know, is my question to you. |

In my current sim, in 1903 he hit .266. He retired after 1909 with a .245 average.
In 1903 he had a contract rating of 59 out of 100, power of 4 and eye of 63. 1 time player of the week, 2 time Gold Glove winner. It is 1978 now in my league and he is 101 years old. I think he is dead, as he is not breathing anymore.

Was his "bunt for hit" rating comparable to a 9 on the 1-10 scale ?
Sammy ended up hitting .404 on the season. Amazing for a 6 contact

Don't know. That was 70 years ago. Maybe I can check the almanac and see. I also use the Lahman database.

Yeah! My first post! Found out about this game 3 weeks ago and have been hooked ever since.
As for the question: In 1901, he hit .271 in 262 AB,not a full-time starter. In 1902: 166 hits in 568 AB for a .292 average Also, I use Lahman database. I'll put 1903 when i finish sim of that season. |
