Missing Players?

When starting a histrorical league sometimes there are players missing. These players "straddled" the start year. For example, Del Crandal was a rookie in 1949 and played in 1949 and 1950. He then did not play in 1951 or 1952 and then was in the majors again in 1953. If you start a league beginning in 1951, he is not there and never enters the league because he is never a "rookie" again. Does anyone have an idea how to identify these players? I know you can import an individual player but how do you find out which ones there are?

Thanks for your help.

Additional Info

After sifting through the Lahman Data Base, I have identified 76 players who had their rookie season prior to 1951, played after 1951, but (for whatever reason) did not play in 1951. These players will not be picked up when the rookies are added and therefore will never be in the game.

While most of them were not significant players, there was one Hall of Famer, Whitey Ford, and a few players who did have solid careers such as Del Crandall, Curt Simmons and Jimmy Piersall.

Just something you should be aware when picking a starting year. There are other examples as well. If you start in 1967 you will not have Nolan Ryan, 1953 no Willie Mays and I'm sure you can find many more examples.

Thats because if the player did not play that year there is no data in the lahhman database for that player for that particular year. So yeah if you are trying to import Nolan Ryan from 1967 you cant because theres no data for him for that year. Hoewever you could just copy his 1966 or 1968 data for the missing data for 1967. This doesnt effect importing a player before or after the missing data year. You just cant import a player from a year there is no data.
So you just gotta either edit the database or you use one of the custom databases. I would suggest Garlons because i beleive he has made adjustments for missing data years like during WW2.

Yes...But

I understand that there are no stats for that year so there is nothing to import initially. But....when you automatically import rookies in the following year(s), these do not appear. Therefore, unless you realize who you are missing and individually import them as free agents, they never will come into the game.

Right because its not their rookie year according to the database. They are no longer rookies. For example Nolan Ryan's rookie year is 1966 so unless you start a league before 1966 he wont import as a rookie because he was NOT in the rookie class for any of the other years. Only 1966. So they really are not missing players. Plus you can always edit the database or use Gambo's database. You could change Ryans b-day to 1900 and edit his stats and have him import in 1925 but if you dont have stats for 1926 he will not import has a rookie in 1926. The players are imported from i beleive the first year that they have stats. Its really no big deal. Im sure historical players would have said something if we couldnt get Whitey Ford or Ryan into the game.

The solution is simple. Identify the players and simply put a batting or pitching record into the database with all fields 0'd out. This will import them into your league initially. The hard part is identifying the players but you could look at the rosters of the year you want to import and go back 3 seasons, 5 if you are playing during the war years and go to baseball-reference and get a listing of all rookies for those years, then simply see if they are on your rosters for the year you are setting up initially. This would only take about an hour or so.

To those creating databases, this may be an option to put in, in future releases.

I actually just realized now that my database was not importing players exactly like I planned. Those players who missed seasons importing as free agents during that given year. I have fixed the problem and in my DB ver 2.25 this will be fixed.
