Career adjustment for low AB/IP?

In OOTP 6.5, when running a historical career sim, a batter who went 3 for 5 lifetime could be made bad for the import season, but still had way too good talent/potential ratings. This was fixed in the 6.51 patch, but not for pitchers. A pitcher who pitched 10 innings lifetime, walked 0 and struckout 10 would still be given great career talent ratings.

Has this been fixed for OOTP 2007? Or an option added that I missed?

Also, any suggestions for how to work Babe Ruth into the sim? Shouldn't he import with high batting talent/potential ratings even as a rookie pitcher? Then you could just change him to an OF when he develops?

Maybe I have a basic misunderstanding of how talent/potential ratings are generated or how they effect player development.

It does a very good job of making crappy players out of those low at bats or IP, but they players occasionally have good enough talent to become a good player. It has been tweaked pretty good.

If you use the yearly modifiers for the players, Babe will be an very good pitcher for a few years (until 1919 I think), and he will have a very good bat during the early years) Then he will automatically become an OF with his normal punch.

Thanks for the info. So if I use yearly player modifiers, the career sim will more closely resemble real historical year by year player stats? What happens if a player missed a season? And does using yearly player modifiers mean talent/potential ratings won't mean anything? Should I turn off player development if I do this?

If a guy missed a season I believe it reverts to the standard career model for that season. Talent doesn't mean nearly as much when the ratings are updated each year, but it's still a way to gauge who is a good guy to have for his career.

I wouldn't turn off player development. While it does stop the ratings from changing during the season, I believe guys who hung up the cleats will continue to have their last year's ratings ad infinitum.

In my historical league, Moonlight Graham barely got any action in the Rookie league (running with full minors) over 3 seasons before leaving baseball completely.

I went with the default settings using the Lahman DB. I like how it tends to make these guys bad, but sometimes they escape from that and have a magnificent career.
