Historical issue: can I fix it?

Two items that I've noticed as I enter my second season. Hopefully they can be fixed.

1. First item, during setup I imported the 1952 rosters (lahman db) and went with a wildcard system. The first season went well. I am just starting my second season, 1953. I noticed after my first sim when reviewing the standings, that the wildcard standings were not showing up. I went into the league options and saw that the option to use the WC for the playoffs had been disabled.
Question: For historical leagues, do you have to reset the setup each year?
Question: Is there a way to "lock these options in" when you set the league up?

2. Same league, imported 1952 rosters (lahman db). Many players (e.g. Whitey Ford) were not in the league, showing up in the retired players list although Whitey was only 23. I was told elsewhere that he would appear in the 1953 player pool for either draft or FA. Well, that didn't happen. He's still in a large pool of players that are retired.
Question: Is there a way to get these players in the league?
Question: If there is a way, how do I do it?

Thanks as I start to learn the ins'n'outs of 2007.

47 views and no replies. Any ideas out there to fix this and get the Whitey Fords of the world into the game?

I guess you just got a forum-wide "I don't know". Happens to me sometimes.

Regarding your first issue, have you tried turning off the various automatic options for each season, such as automatic expansion? That might help, but I really don't know.

Regarding the second, I've never seen anything like that. The only way I can think to get the guys back in is to reimport, but then they will be redundant in your universe. Perhaps you could unretire them, although you would then probably have to assign ratings to them.

Im not sure why you would have guys retired but not being able to be drafted, but maybe the wildcard thing is because you could be using the actual schedule from the 1952 season, which of course didnt include wildcards ?

Well, I don't really think that the end can be assessed as of itself as being the end because what does the end feel like? It's like saying when you try to extrapolate the end of the universe, you say, if the universe is indeed infinite, then how - what does that mean? How far is all the way, and then if it stops, what's stopping it, and what's behind what's stopping it? So, what's the end, you know, is my question to you.

I think there is some feature in the game that automatically sets historical leagues to whatever options would have been checked in the current year. I know DH automatically went into effect for me in the AL when I did a historical sim.

Im thinking its the same thing that happens with all-star games. Even if you have the checkbox for playing the all-star game checked, if you are in a year where there was no all-star game and are using the real schedules, you will not get an all-star game, even if its checked off. Maybe the same thing for wildcards ?
