Players not panning out

How often do most people have players who were stars in real life not pan out in the game and end up never living any where near to where they should be?

Good question, I played a few historical leages and was never really satisfied because of the high expectations I had of the games' superstars and it ALWAYS disappointed me to see the number of failures outweighing the success stories. I started on a histo-fict league where Babe Ruth came up in 1914 but decided to play in the "forbidden" Federal League for his home town Baltimore club. Pitched great the first year and just when I was thinking about making it a dynasty report and bring more players from the NL and AL into the FL - POOF - career gone - CEI, the Babe was done at 20!!!!

Looking at the leadersboards I was surprised not to see what players failed, but the number of unknowns that had very good careers in the game. To me this was just not a historical league but more of a fictional league and because of my inclination to base trades and decisions solely on the players names and my memories of what they were and what they should be, I was never a very good GM. I stay strickly with fictional now but may try a historical with 2007 because my last historical was still with 6.5.

I'm a big Twins fan so when I drafted Harmon Killebrew with the #1 OVR pick I expected great things from him, but he's now at age 22, he's still 22 OVR and doesn't look like he's going to improve much which is a shame because I really wanted him to have a great career.

No Killer in the Twin Cities!!! Blasphemy - say it ain't so... that would be like the Cubs without Ron Santo, the 5th greatest 3rd baseman of all times as rated by the Bill James Historical Abstract..... should not happen. This is why I prefer fictional leagues.

I would just put him on the MLB roster and see what he does. He may surprise you or he may stink up the joint..... either way you get to see him play.....

I have put him on the MLB roster and he has pretty much stunk it up. But I guess that's the beauty of OOTP, you never know what will happen.
