Question about Player recalcs
First off, I am a big stat junkie and this has to be the best simulator I've ever encountered.
I've come across one thing which bothers me, and I'd love to know if anyone has ideas on how to get around this: I have been playing my historical leagues WITHOUT the automating player recalculations set because I like the idea of having guys develop somewhat differently than in real life. The problem comes in with starting pitchers. Because even some of the best starting pitchers start off their first year or so in the bullpen, they are drafted in as relievers! I just drafted Ron Guidry in my league, but because his first year in real life he worked from the pen, He is listed as a reliever and doesn't have the endurance to be starter! (Johan Santana is another example of this) I'm hesitant to use the player recalcs, because in some instances I don't WANT the recalcs to occur (For example, I like the idea of Dale Murphy staying at catcher for me, or Robin Yount not moving from shortstop to outfield.) Is there anything I can do to find a happy medium? I should also note I am using the LAHMAN database. Last edited by jksarni; 08-01-2007 at 02:45 PM. |

You can always edit the players in Commish mode to give them the ratings you want. Or see if one of the other databases imports the players differently. I would probably just edit the guys before the amateur draft every year as they are brought into the league.

Recalc does not really affect the fielding positions that I can see. I know Murphy stayed at catcher for me until the team obtained a better catcher, then moved him to 1B.

at 1B. All three positions he played during his career. So its probably a combo of a team's needs and whether theres any data. |

Ron Guidry didn't become a starter in real life until 1977, his third year in the majors. Here is what I suggest if you don't want to wait that long:
1) start a new league and use 1977 as the first year 2) go to the NY Yankees and write down Guidry's ratings 3) go back to your league and in commish mode, edit Guidry |

After Babe Ruth first became available in your amateur draft, did he appear again in the draft list as an outfielder a few years later, and if so, how did you handle him? |
