Another 1901-2007 Sim (Inspired by Kelric)

Well after reading Kelric's thread and with some help from Garlon, I've found out how cool historical sims. I tried a 1901-2007 sim, similar to Kelric's that he ran just a few days ago, with some suggested settings of Garlon.

It ran from 1901-2007, with no minors, just a 50 man secondary roster and 3 year recalc. For the most part it was pretty accurate, but ti was only my first time so some things went wrong. For instance, since I had financials on in the beginning, Babe Ruth was released after his second year, as a 5 star at the age of 21, because nobody could afford him. I plan on doing this a few more t imes and playing with the settings, but overall I think it turned out all right.

Most of the career numbers aren't really outrageous. The career leader in hits is Rogers Hornsby with 3529.

Mark McGuire is both the single season and career homerun leader, with 72 and 756 respectively. No active player is close, except a 43 year old Bonds, but he's 80 away.

The 500 home run club only has 15 members, excluding Rafael Palmiero with 499. The 600 home run club has 5 members, McGuire, Bonds, McCovey, Ted Williams and Frank Thomas. Thomas is the only active player, and Manny Ramirez is 35 with 566.

In 2007 Joe Mauer hit exactly .400. The record is .440 by Hugh Duffy in 1894 (still)

The career VORP leader for hitters is Ted Williams with 1620.3, Maddux for pitchers at 967.8

The Philadelphia Phillies won the World Series in 12 of their first 15 trips, but have yet to win another in 12 more appearances. Their last win was 1949. 1909-1920 was dominated by the state of Pennsylvania since they had one of three teams in a World Series each year. That includes 1910-1916, where the A's and Phillies played against each other each year, the Phills winning 4 and the A's winning 2. Six teams have yet to win a World Series, Seattle, Florida, Tampa, Texas, Arizona and the Los Angeles Angels.

Open to any player requests and team requests.

Thanks

How did the Red Sox franchise do? What big names played for 'em?

How many Perfect Games wound up being thrown? My sim didn't have any after 1917.

I still need to try one of these myself. What were the settings Garlon suggested to you? How did the Milwaukee Braves/Brewers fare? Any major award winners from either of those two teams?

The Red Sox have a solid history, with 23 playoff appearances, 6 World Series titles last one being 2005.

Mark McGuire hit 517 home runs for them, plus all of his 50+ home run seasons came in a Red Sox uniform. Larry Walker, another Hall of Famer was also a long time Red Sock. They've mainly had recent success, making the playoffs each year from '97 to '05.

My sim had 6 perfect games, last one throw in 1985 by Matt Young. He also threw a no hitter a month earlier. I had 3 after 1917 and 3 before.

And Garlon just suggested a few things, turn off financials, don't use minor leagues and use 3 year recalc. He also suggested to make the park factors neutral, something I didn't do, but he suggested it.

And as for the Brewers, they won one World Series in '88, they also made the playoffs two other times. The Braves won two titles in Milwaukee as well. Counsell won a RoY in 1996, but other than that, no, no major awards for Milwaukee

One amazing thing I did come across was Chris Duncan, who hit 62 homers in his rookie season.

Neutral park settings. I knew I forgot something.

Always fun to see one of those simulation.

How were the "Montreal Expos" in this universe? Any world series or championship? Who were their best players?

And finally what kind of career have those players :

Scott Sanderson, Charlie Lea, Bill Gullickson, David Palmer and Steve Rogers

Thanks!

Apologies for the delay, but here's all your players:

Scott Sanderson didn't have a bad career and was a serviceable pitcher, going 182-197 with a 4.14 ERA/ His best year was 1978 when he went 14-8 with a 2.98 ERA. He was also the 2nd overall pick in the 1977 draft.

Charlie Lea had a short career but a pretty solid one, going 51-47 with a 3.33 ERA, splitting time with the Phillies and the Dodgers. He was a 12th overall pick in the 1979 draft.

Bill Gullickson, almost identical to the other, also had a serviceable, but short career due to a torn labrum. He was 52-55 over his career with a 4.17 ERA.

David Palmer had a very good career, including a fantastic 20-5, 2.62 ERA. Over his career, he went 124-94 with a 3.47 ERA. Somehow, he didn't win the Cy Young in his best year.

Steve Rogers also had a very good career, having his win column be double digits every year from 1973-1984. Unfortunately, every year he won doubled digits, he lost double digits as well. He still went 202-168 though, with a 3.75 ERA. He was a second overall pick and 3 time all star.

As for the Expos franchise, they made the playoffs seven times, winning it once, in 1989. Their last division title was 2006, which obviously came as the Nationals.

The Orioles haven't won a World Series since moving back to Baltimore in 1954, and have one of the longest World Series droughts in the league. Their last title was back in 1930, as the St. Louis Browns.

Although he wasn't the Iron Man he was in real life, Ripken still had a very career splitting time between 4 times. He finished with only a .276 AVG, but 2783 hits and 344 home runs. He was fifth overall pick by Houston in 1980 and became a 2 time all star and 7 time gold glover.

Brady Anderson had a mediocre status at best, hitting .258 and belting 165 homers. He also averaged 32 SB a year. He was a one time all star as well.

Frank Robinson, a no doubt Hall of Famer, hitting a lifetime .276 with 490 home runs. He was mainly a White Sock winning 3 titles with them. Robinson was also a 3 time MVP and a 10 time all star.

Brooks Robinson was a very good player despite never being inducted into the Hall. He hit a lifetime .284 with 115 homers. He was traded twice in the matter of two weeks back in 1954, which was interesting. Amazingly, he never won a Gold Glove.

Carlos Delgado who is still playing, has had a very good career and will more than likely be a Hall of Famer, especially because of the lack of power in my sim. Delgado has been a Giant his whole career, belting 387 homers and hitting .281. He is also a 4 time all star.

Tino Martinez (one of my personal favorites) had a very good career, but still falling short of the Hall. He hit a career .276 with 330 homers. He was a two time all star and one time Gold Glover.

John Flaherty
had a pretty good career as a back up catcher, hitting a career .306 with 16 homers, but other than that was nothing more than a back up catcher for Baltimore for 7 years.

Lol, and sadly, Michael Vick never got drafted

I have to run out now but I'll get the rest soon
