an interesting trade debate

I'm playing the 39 Yankees (and in this universe, Gehrig doesn't have his disease, and is having a decent year, although I think he's slowing down), and I end up with this trade offer from the computer in early June:

NY gives up:

Lou Gehrig (35) (291/12/38/+19.2)
Johnny Murphy (30) (8 games/11 innings/4-2/2 sv/8.18 ERA)

Bos gives up:

Ted Williams (20) (377/9/39/+32.8)

Although the fans are going to lynch me, I think that's a steal of a trade.

Even if I'm not sure how to play him, as Charlie Keller's hitting 372 and George Selkirk is hitting 374...I think one of them will move to 1st base.

Yes, I have Babe the lesser, but he's pretty much worthless.

Who gets lynched more--the Boston GM or me? I know there was talk of trading DiMag for Williams in 1946 irl, but for a washed-up Gehrig and a closer with an ERA of 8?

That's a no-brainer...take it! You'll win the fans back with the World Series trophies Teddy will bring to your team.

I would think the Boston team is getting fleeced a bit more since Williams is only 20 years old and Gehrig is 35.

What are the ratings of Gehrig and Williams ? Maybe because of the way the league is setup, Williams ratings are not quite yet what they are going to be in the future, while Gehrig is still showing pretty high ratings, even though he is on the downward slide, so the computer thinks they are pretty equal (default player evaluation is set to 50% for ratings I think). Thats just a guess as to why the CPU would do a deal like this.

What are your trade settings ? I have my trade settings on hard/favor prospects, and in my current league, I was offered a very young Ty Cobb for some knucklehead on my team like Roy Thomas. Even though the CPU thought it was a fair deal, I didnt go through with it. Maybe the CPU doesnt look at potential enough ?

It's like saying when you try to extrapolate the end of the universe, you say, if the universe is indeed infinite, then how - what does that mean? How far is all the way, and then if it stops, what's stopping it, and what's behind what's stopping it? So, what's the end, you know, is my question to you.

I've noticed that, when playing historical leagues with recalc on, it is extraordinarily easy to fleece the GM. I don't know if you guys are talking about having recalc on, but the game just isn't very challenging when you have it on. The AI doesn't know how players are going to develop. It treats them as having the same chance of not reaching potential as it would in a fictional league. If you have recalc off, though, it seems to do an okay job.

Yeah I have recalc on, only because I want the position changes. Ideally, we would be able to get the correct position changes with recalc off, but I dont think that is doable.

The ideal thing would be for the computer to understand that it is playing in a recalc league and be able to make decisions accordingly. The way it is now, you have to be either playing against other people, running it in commish mode, or using pretty strict house rules if you want a challenge in a recalc league.
