Initial season import question

What file(s) does the game look at to decide which players to import during the initial import season. The reason I ask is that when I use Lahman to import the 1901 season, it never imports Gene DeMontreville for the Bosoton Braves and he played in all 140 games for them. I have checked and he is listed in both the batting and fielding files for the 1901 season. Any help would be great so that I can correct what needs to be fixed.

Thanx!

dola

BTW Demontreville does import correctly when you import starting with the 1902 season.

The game reads the debut year field in the master.csv file to determine the debut year. In the default lahman database Demontreville has a debut year of 1894 so he should import with a 1901 league start.

It's like saying when you try to extrapolate the end of the universe, you say, if the universe is indeed infinite, then how - what does that mean? How far is all the way, and then if it stops, what's stopping it, and what's behind what's stopping it? So, what's the end, you know, is my question to you.

He's been aboard in every 1901 start I've ever done. Is there something futzy with your game setup, perhaps?

timmermac I found the problem. In my last historical sim, I started with lahman 5.4 and finished with lahman 5.5, somehow DeMontreville's hitting and fielding stats for before 1902 were deleted in the copy of 5.4 I was using. DUH probably something I did wrong.

At least I have found out what the game uses for each initial season when starting a league. I looks at the fielding, batting and pitcher files and for every player that has stats in one of these files for the season you are starting with it creates. Now I know how to get players to import that debut in a year prior to the season being started with and play in a year later, but missed the entire season being used (example would be Nick Altrock in 1901 as he debut in 1898 but didn't play in the majors again until 1902, so he doesn't import in 1901). You just have to give them stats in the fielding, batting and/or pitching files for the season you are importing and he will import.

Thanx for the replies!

Glad you found your problem. I also wanted to let you know that there are modified databases out there that fix the problem your talking about. One that comes to mind is Spritz/Garlon's database, which adds stats for missing years and does a bunch of other things to clean up the data. There are a few other databases out there too, that do things a little differently.

Here is the link to the Spritz/Garlon database info
