Hank Aaron

Hank was drafted 5th overall by the Philadelphia Phillies in 1953 and went on to play 18 years in that organization. Aaron was a 15 time all star, 4 time MVP and 2 time gold glover. Overall his numbers rivaled a lot of top quality players until a bad injury forced him into a diminished role, however he only hit more than 40 homers in any given season. Aaron also won 2 championships with the Phillies and also won the triple crown in 1965.

Here are his career stats...

GP 2682 AB 10533 R 1610 H 3099 2B 486 3B 99 HR 508 RBI 1796 BB 904 SO 1269 SB 217 AVE .294 OBP .348 SLG .504 OPS .852

Sadly though for the Hammer, he was hurt right after his 49 homer season. He was still looking like one of the best until that injury and never played a full season again. He only played 97 games after that season.

Willie Mays

Mays was drafted 2nd overall to the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 1950 draft and exploded into the majors hitting 16 homers in less than 80 games of pinch hit and sub games. For the next 20 seasons, he patrolled the outfield for the Pirates and was one of the best power hitters of all time. Mays hit 576 homers and had a decent .281 average, although his average fell quite a bit after the Pirates trade him to Milwaukee and he held on a little too long. Mays was an All Star 14 times and a Gold Glover 7. He won the MVP twice but neither were his best season. He was traded to Milwaukee for Minor Leaguer Ray Lamb who didn't do a whole lot for the Bucs.

Mays was insurmental in the 5 WS titles that the Pirates enjoyed during his tenure there. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame.

His career totals...

GP 3234 AB 11790 R 1950 H 3314 2B 473 3B 181 HR 576 RBI 1944 BB 1361 SO 1789 SB 369 AVE .281 OBP .354 SLG .498 OPS .853

Mickey Mantle

Mick played for only 2 teams after the draft of 1950. He was drafted by the Chicago Cubs 1st overall in that draft. He played 15 season with the Cubs before signing in Los Angeles with the Dodgers. He was a very solid hitter with explosive power and the ability of the greatest fielders.

MORE TO COME...

What player had the most surprising career in terms of being a so-so real-life player and turning into a superstar in your league?

On the corpse. My question is...
No, my question. I get to go first. Why in pluperfect hell would you pee on corpse?

Not sure if you are still around posting info, but what about Bill Voss ... He used to be my pastor when I lived in Arizona. He had a journeyman's career as an OF for several clubs...

Also how about Jeff Huson...

Thanks!
