Simming Historical Minor Leaguers

Is there a way to install the statistics from these two minor leaguer data bases and use them in the game?

You have to purchase those databases from the owner of that site. Also, the information contained within those databases (stats) minus the military service information, is already provided in the readily available game databases (i.e: Lahman, Gambo, etc)

The second database doesn't have enough information to be useful for these purposes. The first one might, but I suspect a lot of what you'd need would be missing for the minor league players.

Dola,

Even if it did, you'd have to put the information in a format compatible with Lahman and figure major league equivalents to the minor league stats. It would be quite a challenge. Conceivable with a dedicated group, but hardly practical.

Swampdragon, is your "location" a tribute to the Alejandro Jodorowsky film or the record label, or neither?

Neither. It's Tolkien.

Thanks for the Input

Just received the PBSD (1920-1945). I'll take a look at it, and see if there is anything I can do with it

These db's are compiled FoxPro databases.

You would need the uncompiled db's to be able to convert them to Lahman format.

Or you could print every page to a file and capture the data that way and then convert to Lahman style.

Three things come to mind:

1) OOTP doesn't as yet recreate the evolution of the major-minor relationship. The way minor leagues worked with the majors in 1908 was a lot different from how they work together in 2008.

2) The real minor leagues have had a very large variation in terms of the number of leagues and teams compared to the majors. Recreating that accurately would be a considerable challenge.

3) SABR is working on an online minor league database which will eventually include detailed player and league stats for all the minor leagues. There's an alpha version of the site up currently, and as that project continues forward more and more data will be added. I'd expect that in a year what SABR will have available will be quite impressive.

I know I've waited at least a year to hear The Opus of Le Grande Orange, i.e., your OOTP proposals for schedules, minor leagues and associations, playoff structures etc etc!

Though I did see in the feature list for OOTP9 expanded playoff options. Was that you?

I'm in the very early stages of putting together something which will (hopefully) both make the finances of the game better and more customizable while simultaneously allowing a fairly faithful recreation of the evolution of the major-minor relationship.

Still a long way to go on that though as there's lots of research I need to do first to build up a good sample of real-world data to use as a starting point to refine the concepts. Hopefully I can get it done in time to be considered for OOTP10.

Markus finally had a chance to look over the detailed proposal I had made for customizable playoffs earlier this year, liked what he saw, and decided to try and get at least some of it into the game.

Le Grande Orange is definitely right about the SABR Minor League database. Right now it's only in alpha, but there are so many knowledgeable people involved in the project. I'm actually helping translate minor league ballpark information for use in the database, but give this game more time, and possibly in the future there can be some kind of byproduct from this work implemented into this game.
