What am I doing wrong? (Starting historical league in 1890)

I followed all the on-screen prompts to start a historical league in 1890. Added Minor leagues. Got to the end, and after creating myself as manager I get the following error message

"Both subleagues have to have the same number of divisions! The error occured in this league: Major Leagues"

I understand what the problem is, the default is set to 2 divisions. But it won't let me edit it to 1 since there are only 8 teams in 1 division. On the league setup structure it says "cannot be edited because this is a standard or historical league".

I know it's probably a really dumb thing I am missing but after messing with it for 20 mins I am turning to you guys for help.

Are you playing with a historical league using one of the historical databases or are you playing historical fictional?

I believe if you use the historical database from the game you cannot edit league structures as they will automatically configure as you simulate seasons going forward. You may have to create a custom league and modify as you go along.
