Historical Newbie

I'm thinking of running a historical/fictorical replay of MLB (haven't decided yet exactly which), and I have some questions. I'm not at all new to OOTP, but I've never run a historical replay myself, and I don't want to screw things up if the knowledge is out there to avoid it.

I was thinking of starting in 1871, and realized that many of the teams that were around then, are no longer around today. They've folded, and new teams have sprung up to replace them. If I remove a team, and replace it with a new team, will I mess up player/league history? If I move them team to the new city, then the history of the folded team will become the history of the new team, correct? I'd prefer to keep the team histories as they should be, but I don't want to lose anything by removing teams.

Also, if an entire league folds, can I remove the league and still see the history? For example, if I add the Federal League to my world, what do I do with it after the 2 years it existed?

Thanks!

I am probably way off base to what your asking. But if you start a league in 1871 the game will add and expand teams on its own as you progress. Hope this is some help.

Well, I'm thinking about managing 1971-1900 myself since OOTP doesn't seem to import all the teams correctly. It certainly doesn't match what's listed over at Baseball Reference. Also, I'm not sure the Federal League will get imported or not since it's an entirely separate league.

Although I haven't tried it yet myself, OOTP9 uses an altered league structure to accomodate that early era and so is not entirely accurate. Le Grande Orange has commented on that in other threads.
