Historical Replay with a twist (starting in 1870s)

Hello all, I haven't done a whole lot with historical leagues and I especially get bogged down trying to figure out all the modifiers and recalc stuff...

Anyways, here is what I want to accomplish with my next dynasty. Any help or suggestions that folks can provide will be well-appreciated.

• I want to start a league in 1877 using real players but placing them on fictional teams. I plan initially to just be the commish for this league, watching and reporting for a dynasty story.

• In terms of stats like home runs hit, stolen bases, batting average, etc. I want each season to roughly follow what happened in real life (though I'm not a complete stickler that it has to be dead on). If the league leader in 1914 hit 18 home runs, I'd like for my top guy to hit 15-20ish, etc. I certainly don't want him hitting 40 or 50 (or 4-5).

• I'd like my league to expand in roughly the same timetable as MLB unfolded. I may actually start with fewer teams but want to end up with 16 by 1903, etc. I don't plan to have free agency and financials until the 1970s or so...

I guess my questions center around what I need to check and uncheck and what I need to monitor/change/fix during, before and after each season. I have some general idea after reading a lot on here but in a few test sims, I've had some stuff get way out of whack (like teams averaging 10 errors per game in my first season) ... I want to get things right the first time so I don't have to re-sim a season because some numbers were way off...

Anyways, this a plea for help to those historical experts out there ...

Just keep in mind the initial season or two will have wacky stats as the modifiers have not kicked in yet.

Also keep in mind the differences in the game back then, 10 errors per game was not too unusual in those days.

Other than that the defaults will get you close to the items delineated here and you can adjust as necessary based on personal preferance.
