Historical Problem
I recently purchased the game hoping to do some historical sims. I set up a historical league starting in 1947. The settings I used for trades were rare and hard. Before the season even started the Braves traded Warren Spahn to the Cubs for some 34 year old outfileder in his last year and Washington traded Early Wynn for something very similar.
Are there any settings to use that result in either historical trades or at least not silly ones as above? I hate to go with no trading at all but from the little I've seen so far the AI is not up to the task. Any thoughts on how I can get more realistic results will be appreciated. |

You might need to tweak the favor prospect/veteran slider. I don't remember exactly how old those two were then, but it was earlier in their career anyway. Maybe knock it a notch or two toward prospect. Alternately, since they are starters, you could favor pitching a little too.

Another odd thing is that my scout had Spahn with very bad current and potential ratings. Maybe all of the teams thought of him as a bum except Chicago. |

Another factor is the financial situation of the teams involved in the trade and the contracts of Spahn and Wynn. When you start a sim, the AI assigns a contract which to me has always seemed somewhat arbitrary.
Also your setting as to arbitration and free agency can affect this. The AI does seem to make some trades to dump salaries and/or trade away prospective free agents. |
