Example: Dodgers
"Historical Team ID" = Brooklyn until 1958 Los Angeles after "Historical Franchise ID" = All incarnations of the Dodger franchise irregardless of the team name used (Dodgers, Robins etc), city played in (as noted) or number of italian dunderheads in the dugout (Lasorda). |

As long as your not in the dugout, it's not directed at every Italian.

What if he was another nationality...would the following sentence be okay?? "...or number of (Mexican/German/Irish/Japanese/Chinese) dunderheads in the dugout." |

I think it would be best if this thread were dropped from here on out. No need to get into this kind of nationality thing. There are dunderheads with all nationalities. One isn't born a dunderhead...you just become one. I know, I am Scottish and French and English and I am one so I acquired it myself over the years.
Anyway, let's not get into this kind of thing here in the forum. It does no one any good and makes new people who see this, wonder what kind of place this is! Agreed? I don't think we want that.

Getting back to topic, what should you do if you're starting a historical dynasty in the 1870s and you want to use real players but fictional teams?
Should I change the historical ID and franchise ID things? I'm still a bit confused (but not dunderheaded) about what these tags do. Thanks... AZ |

You can't change things until 1901.
1871 thru 1900 teams are coded into the game and you cannot change them. Any changes you make at the major league level will revert to the coded names every time your year progresses. After 1900 you may change things to suit your tastes. |

This only true if you have Automatically expand league checked. Teams will not change from year to year if that option is not checked. I play with the actual historical teams. I add and delete teams each year not because the game changed back to the defaults but because of the actual league structure changed. I delete the teams from the league in December during the winter meetings and add the new teams January 1st. I make sure that the teams have the correct franchise id before the rookies are imported on January 15th. At that time all the rookies end up on the correct teams. If the team's franchise id is incorrect the player will show up as a free agent. If that happens then I will just edit the player profile and add him to the correct team and fix the team's franchise id. |
