Straight To Team Or Draft
I recently started a 1940 career and decided to have the players go to their real teams instead of a draft. I have never played this way before. Now usually in a 20 year season I will be fired so many times and maybe win 1 or 2 World Series. Now in 18 seasons I have made the playoffs 14 times and have won 10 world series. Now is it that I'm just a lousy manager when it comes down to it or is it because I am playing the Yank's. Has anyone else noticed such a difference...Thanks in advance for your input..

Well selecting the most dominant team of the 1950s sure helps. Over 15 years from the late '40s to early '60s, they won 10 World Series.
So.... yeah, it's probably because you're playing as the Yanks. Try doing that as the Athletics over the same timespan.

There are way too many variables to consider that one change would make such a difference.
I have played many seasons using both the rookie draft and assigning to actual teams and, if anything, have found that it is more difficult if the rookies are assigned to their original teams. Expecially if the trading of draft picks is allowed. BTW in both of these cases, I have never been fired. |

Sometimes it's fun though.

I always take the worst team for the year before I start an historical league. Much more challenging to me, since I play out every game as the manager. I like to see if I can make the right trades, etc. to get this team to the world series at some point. But we all play the game differently so go for it.

![]() My eyes glaze over if I get past like 1000 or 1200 AD without a break. But I agree, it easy to talk yourself into 'just one more turn' for about 100 years. Back to topic, I like having players go to original teams, though I generally like to keep some ties to actual history. If I want fictional history, I'll just play a fictional league. I'm not really sure which is 'harder'.

I like having players go to their original teams initially but then let the sim do it's thing and have some of these players get traded to other teams. I like to see if being on another team changes their overall stats or not. I find it does and that is great for me. I just like playing the sim that way but hey, each to their own.
