Amateur Draft Date & Historical Leagues
After doing various tests, it seems that the best date(s) to set the Ammy Draft for a historical league is in the offseason. As an example, I do mine on Oct 15th.
The import of this is that you get the player to play his first year in his historical year. If you set it at June 15th (as default has it), then he is able to play one year earlier than his majors debut. Now this might be desirable to guys who want to get them into the league a bit quicker, but the flip side is that getting them in quicker doesn't come with them at a lower rating level. IOW, they aren't more 'amateur' or undeveloped. They are just arriving earlier, and being ahistorically over-rated for that time period in their career. So, if what you want is them appearing in their historical mlb season, then set the ammy draft for the offseason. For example, if your league's inaugural season is 1962, then set the ammy draft date for Oct15th (or later) of 1962, or before the start of the 1963 regular season. |
