Rating adjustments with neutralized stats

I believe that when creating a game using neutralized stats, the feature that adjusts ratings for players with low playing time doesn't work properly.

My understanding is that this feature adjust the ratings for players with modest playing time in the direction of whatever is considered average performance -- which may mean a player's ratings might be adjusted up or down slightly. My understanding is also that players with very low playing time will have their ratings significantly lowered from whatever it might have been without the adjustment.

I have seen many instances now -- using neutralized stats only -- in which players who qualify for this adjustment always have their ratings raised, sometimes significantly. For example, a player with stats in a neutralized data base that would rate him as average or somewhat below average, gets ratings that only a star player would have.

This is somewhat hard to detect using the Garlon-Spritze DB that comes with the game, because there are usually very few players who qualify for the adjustment. I first noticed this when using the Gambo DB, but knowing what to look for, I have also seen it in the G-S DB.

If I am correct about this, I think this adjustment feature should be disabled when selecting the use neutralized stats.

If you use 3 year re-calc and have development off this will not happen. It is a function of development mostly. The reason to use 3 year recalc is so your players reach the minimum number of AB's and IP's.

Sorry, but I can't say that this explains what I am seeing. When I create a game using real stats and the default settings for the ratings adjustment feature (i.e., less than 50 ABs or 10 IP, for example), the resulting ratings -- on day one -- are indeed adjusted as advertised. When I create a game using neutralized states and the default settings for the ratings adjustments feature, the resulting ratings are often badly skewed in the wrong direction. No time has passed, no development has occurred.

I agree that recalc would solve this discrepancy for most of these players in two or three seasons. However, I have found that the problem is fixed during game creation by essentially turning off the ratings adjustment feature (by putting zeros in each cell). The purpose of this posting what just to pass this along, if anyone is interested.

I'm going to move this thread to the historical leagues forum, as it may well be a settings issue rather than a technical fault.
