Having Trouble Starting League

So I was creating a league, an 1875 league (once I get into the game I'm going to completely change the teams and release all players and schedule an inaugural draft).

Anyway there were 13 teams back then, but I can't change that in the setup screen before I create the league. The problem is that when I try to start the league it says, "An uneven number of teams has been found in a sub-league. Only an even number of teams is allowed within a sub-league! The error occurred in this league: Major League 1875"

So what do I do?

So anyone know why I can't start a league in 1875 anymore?

Are you creating a historical or fictional league in 1875?
The historical should have 8 teams. 4 in AL & 4 in NL.
The database was edited to help avoid this problem.
Since you cant have odd number of teams.
If however you wish to have the team names as they were in history you could just leave out teams that played only a year or folded.
If you want to use historical players it would be better to start a historical league. Things like expansion & ballpark changes are taken care of. All you need to do is adjust league setup to what you like.

Sorry, basically what I mean is I'm starting a historical league in 1875 (I will change the teams and stuff later). But it's starting with 12 teams in one league and won't let me start.

I'm having this same problem myself. I'm wanting to start in 1871 with historically accurate teams and players, but like the original poster it says I can't start with an uneven number of teams and there are 9 teams in the league. It also says since it is a historical league I can't edit the league structure.

Can anyone help us get started?

I'm assuming I choose the historical database rather than the master database? What is the difference?

Once I get started, the league will automatically alter the structure for adding teams and changing names?

I just bought this game today so am still finding my way around.

Thanks for the help.

Are you using version 9? Because previous versions would not import 19th century leagues though you could do it with a workaround.
Not sure how you are getting 12 teams since it should start with 4 in the AL & 4 in the NL. The teams in the database had to be edited from real life because of odd # of teams. Garlon did a great job in editing the database in order to get the game to import 19th century leagues.

Do you know how to find the lahman database the game uses?
If not we cant help you. But if you know how to get there then check
the "teams" file and see what teams it has listed for 1875.
If you are using the create historical league option it should have
the setup i mentioned.

Not sure about the other poster, but I just bought the game yesterday so I have the most up to date version. It still doesn't start the early years (have tried 1871-1876 so far) properly. It either says there are an uneven number of teams, or that both leagues need to have the same number of divisions to start.

This is quite frustrating. Why is this even an issue? Seems like this part of the game needs a lot of work. I should be able to edit the league structure somehow to allow it to work, but I can't.

Thanks again for the help.

I used to be able to start a league from the 1870's with no problem. I just downloaded the latest patch a couple days ago after not playing for awhile, so I have the most up-to-date version. Not sure what's going on.

You might keep in mind that Markus pretty much gave us the 19th century leagues as a favor. 19th century leagues were never really intended to be part of the game. Because of the chaos of the 19th century baseball.

If you have ootp9 then i would like to take a look at the database you are using for importing players. PM me and ill give you my email address.
Just hang in there cause i can assure you that you can start a league from the 19th century.
My solo league started in 1871 and is up to 1881 but Cap Anson still has not played on a championship team.

Still no fix?

I just Updated to the 9.2.13 version and the same thing happened. Is this going to get fixed because its one of the reasons i bought this game over the other games.

My solo league has been going strong since 1871 and is now on 1882. However, I don't use any of the default historical stuff that comes with the game; it's all workarounds.
