Still can not equalize eras
Been trying to do this since when I first bought the game, I want to have modern baseball stats from 1901 to 2008 to really see who was the "greatest" I have tried adjusting recalc the league strategy but spritze suggested I modifiy the era stats and modifiers so I did that.
In the era stats file, I modified it so in 1910, there are only 16 teams, and I took the # of at bats and homeruns in a modern 2008 season and divided it so I got the exact same number as the Modern MLB if it were cut to 16 teams and I did that for each year of expansion. I adjusted the modifiers so they are all modern era. But I still can not get an accurate representation, The top HR hitter in 1922 was Babe Ruth with 14, the strikeout leader is 56, the game crashes when I try to introduce minors. Has anyone ever done this? or am I first to attempt this, I dont want a "deadball era", I want everyone to have a level playing field across 100 years of history. Thanks and please dont hesititate to ask if you need more clairification |

Yup, I have done this successfully. BUT minors did not crash me so maybe your challenge lies there?
I did not need to change the number of teams to 16 in 1910 as that is how many there were already so could this also be an issue? I set all era_stats to be the same every year. Low SO/HR totals are to be expected as ratings for those abilities are low across the board for all players in the teens. The OOTP modifier system will help with that as the league gets older but they'll never make it all up or at least they did not for me when I did what you are attempting. Good luck. Can't you just create a 1901 league and import the settings for 2007 and just leave it that way?

How did your stats and modifier look like? right now I am using this(keep on mixing them up) and I am getting extremely low batting averages like .60? if possible could you provide your era stats and modifier file that you used in your successful experiment? I would just like... say the 1950's to be relatively equal to the modern era, same batting averages, relatively same number of home runs and strikeouts.
In the past 3 games I have attemped, I have done it without minors and it hasnt crashed but I get wonky results, whenever I did minors in the past, it would ussualy crash on me after 3 or 4 seasons but right now I just want to get positive results first, then move on to the minor leagues issue afterwards. Thanks for the quick replies |

I'll send them to you on the morrow. I have them on my external drive which is at one of my customer sites backing them up right now.
Or maybe I'll just change yours. |

give this a try
You inadvertantly had a typo (a 30) in the fourth or fifth line in an extra column that cannot exist. It probably threw your delimiters off. That might make everything go all wonky on you. Other than that what you had looks just peachy.

I have it set to recalc for 5 years, would having no recalc be best for this type of historical simulation.
Edit: Just ran a sim, still getting low batting averages using your era stats file you provided(this is after I waited 2-3 seasons to let the game sort out the stuff first) ![]() ![]() Thanks for the help and quick reply Last edited by jaguar8311; 01-27-2009 at 09:20 AM. |

Jag, you don't want recalc on. And why can't just importing the 2007 settings work without playing with all of the modifiers and whatnot?

when you get home or if you have time, can you spend a modified era stats file, I tried again with a different modified value and it has not changed(the problem).
I dont understand importing stats? what would it do? Thanks again |

You accidently saved your changes to era_stats.txt as a tab delimited file (which I noticed but did not pick up on yesterday), it needs to be a comma deliminated file (CSV) using the tab delimited extension of TXT.
Check your modifier file as well, it is also probably saved/named incorrectly. I'll leave that one to you to practice saving/naming on. Let me know if you get stuck. Most programs default TXT files as tab-delimited and CSV files as comma-delimited. Sometimes OOTP likes to mix the two. Bottom line - Save as a CSV file but use the TXT extension. (but beware you don't accidently name it era_stats.txt.csv which is what happens to most people) You can look at the file name through the command prompt if you need to. |

I got it working, no zeros! but i have simmed 6 seasons in 1920 and the averages are very high, hovering between 280 and 310. My goal was for the settings and modifiers to "scale down" the # of hits and increase strikeouts, regardless of ratings.

Other than year one of your league (which will always be weird) averages will fluctuate depending on the players who make up your league. The modifiers will try to smooth this out but expect fluctuation as your history moves forward. Over the span of 100 years the average numbers should nearly equal your altered era_stats numbers but each individual year will have its own flavor. That is just how OOTP works.

Modifiers should not be 1.000, you need to activate them and let them do their modificational job. It is the use of the modifiers that will result in numbers similar to what you have in the era_stats file.
Once you have that activated you will get the results you are shooting for. Except for the initial year of course. Modifiers of 1.000 across the board always result in too much offense. |

I activated the "change modifiers for historical accuracy button". two years later I game crashes around 4/12, I have simmed three times and it still crashes, but so far I am producing good stats (2.50 average).
Thanks for all the help so far, maybe its the minors that is causing it to crash. I will test it after I get back from school. |

the BABIP is the culprit in all of this, but how do I maintain a constant figure? if I change the number to 2.60, I get that modifier for the season then it resets back to 3.02, I checked my erastats.csv file and there is no BABIP option.
Any solutions? Thanks for continued help |
