4-man rotation in '77?

Just tinkering around with a new historical league in OOTP9 after having imported my old league from OOTP2007 and something struck me a little odd.

Did rotations in 1977 generally go with a 4-man?

I could just be spoiled by today's modern game, but I am having a hard time recalling when the 5-man rotation became commonplace.

Any help would be appreciated.

The Dodgers went to a 5 man rotation as early as 1971 while the Orioles stuck with the 4 man into the 80's,but overall, most teams made the transition between 74 and 75.

Earl Weaver always used a 4-man rotation when he was managing the Orioles. He figured why take away starts from the four better pitchers.

I think that by now the AI has all the teams in your dynasty with a 5-man rotation with the option of starting the highest rested starter. That means if the #1 starter is as rested as the #5 starter, the AI would start the #1 starter. In other words, after an off day, the AI would usually bypass the #5 starter in favor of those in the 1-4 spots. This way, the starters in the highest positions will get more starts than in a strict 5-man rotation.

In my dynasty with the Red Sox starting in 1978, I am using a 4-man rotation and spotting a 5th starter. I've been trying to follow the exact pitching rotation that they used in RL.
