Historical MLB Player Numbers
I have a csv formatted text file with all historical major league player uniform numbers from 1929-2008. I became frustrated that this information is not readily available anywhere and set out to gather it, to make it available, and to make it sortable for ease of use (which it is via excel). The zip file is too large to attach here (532k). If anybody is interested in this, please let me know and I will try and make it available (somewhere).

And for taking the time to put it together.

Been playing with this file. I notice that it's 65,536 lines long, which is the maximum for Excel files. This makes me think that some numbers were left out. Was there a particular criteria used for inclusion on this list?
Also: 98.96% of the numbers fall between 1-59. This is solid evidence that traditional baseball numbers don't go past the 50s in normal circumstances. |

You either need to open this file via notepad (or a notepad type of editor) or by using Excel 2007 to see all of the rows. Older versions of Excel will cut the rows off after the limit you listed previously. That limitation is removed with Excel 2007.
