Replaying historic World Series - easiest way?

I simply want to replay, say, the 1965 World Series, Twins vs. Dodgers, without resimming the entire season (which rarely produces the historic pennant winners).

What's the easiest way to do this? Is there a way to simply import the stats for these two teams and set up a seven game series?

(I have version 8, but I figured it's probably similar to version 9, and I wasn't sure if as many people would be checking out the version 8 forum.)

Also, is there an easy way to play a series of World Series winners from different eras (e.g. 27 Yanks vs. 55 Dodgers)?

I tried this. Created a 1934 season. Deleted the schedule. Then scheduled a seven game series between the Cards and Tigers in October. Pretty easy...

...although now the game seems to want to crash all the time (sigh).

And it doesn't delete all the games during the regular season. It still plays about 5 games (???).

I reported this bug during beta testing for OOTP9. It was not fixed. But as far as I can tell, the same bug does NOT exist in OOTP10.

I try to sim a season, then reschedule the post season using the historically correct teams.

Every time I try to play the series, the game crashes. Very frustrating.

What you are asking for is not a feature of the game, but, that does not mean that it cannot be done. When I have time, I will play around and see if I can see how to do it.

Right off the bat, I see there may be some problems.

Here is what I would suggest:

Let's say it was 1968.

Create a historical league for 1968. Delete all the teams but the Tigers and the Cardinals. This will put all of them people into the free agent pool. So, then go into free agents, delete all the free agents.

I would also turn off trading, scouting, suspensions and injuries. Also turn off spring training.

Now go into the schedule and clear the current schedule.

Now comes the part that you will have to experiment with. I suggest at this point, you save the game and make a backup of the league.

Just simply copy the league.lg folder. Go ahead and make a few copies, league1.lg, league2.lg, etc. This keeps you from having to do all the above work again.

Now, you would go into the schedule edit and create the schedule for the 7 game series. In a quick test, setting up a playoff schedule did not work, as there was no season for it to play. So, you may just want to set a 3 game set at Detroit, then one at St. Louis and then one at Detroit for one game.

Like I said, you will have to play around.

PLAN B:

Load in the 1968 historical. Release all the players for every team, except for Detroit and Saint Louis. release all the free agents.

So, now all the teams except Detroit and the Cards have no players.

Go into the player create section, where you define the settings for fictional players. Set up real low, so you are creating really lousy players. Then fill each team (except Detroit and the Cards) with fictional players.

Then you can go ahead and run the season up to the playoffs, and since all of the teams that you filled with fake players will suck, the Tigers and Cards should both win their division.

It is a lot of work to do this, but, as I said, the game was not designed with this ability, but with some thinking it out in head, just about anything can be done.
