.ODB and .CSV files in Stats Directory

Whats the difference between the .odb and the .csv files in the Stats directory? I understand that the .odb will override the .csv files for an import if they are in the same directory, but do they hold the same data, or is one the neutralized data and other normal data?

It's like saying when you try to extrapolate the end of the universe, you say, if the universe is indeed infinite, then how - what does that mean? How far is all the way, and then if it stops, what's stopping it, and what's behind what's stopping it? So, what's the end, you know, is my question to you.

ODB is a compliled version of the csv files. It allows league history to load faster and probably helps in other ways as well. Same data, different format.

Thanks for the answer. What Id like to do is import 1903 with full history, BUT only import player stats for players that were not yet retired in 1903. So instead of having Cap Anson lead most of the offensive career stats, Ed Delahanty would be the leader in alot of them. Sort of like a real life scenario where major league baseball shutdown and a new league started up 1903, allowing players to retain their past career stats, but not recognize stats for players that are no longer in the league.

I have a customized "master.csv" that I used in the past to accomplish this. So if I move the .ODB file out of the folder, and copy my custom master.csv file over the one that is currently in the folder, this should work, correct ?

Those .csv files are not just straight Lahman files, but modified versions of them, right?

I see that the .CSV files are the normal unedited Lahman files with a bunch of blank data.

Is the player pitch data contained in the .ODB file only ?

I didnt see any pitch data in the normal Lahman .CSV files, so Im guessing that the information is contained in the .ODB only. So it seems that if you want correct pitch data then you have to use the .ODB. If you want the blank data filled in, with say a Gambo or Garlon/Spritz DB, then you can use that also, but at the expense of correct pitch data. Also, in my situation, I can only use a version of the Gambo or Garlon/Spritz database if I want the missing data filled in, and I also want to eliminate the older players stats from being imported.

Am I in the right ballpark here ?
