Recalc / Semi-historical defensive issue
Problem Description
Version: patched PC/MAC: PC What were you doing? I'm running two leagues side by side. One with historical real players, one with fictional players. One league has recalc on, while the fictional player league has recalc off. All other settings are the same, to run historically. Each season there is a promotion & relegation between the two leagues. At various times, fictional players will be within the historical league. What happened? When fictional players are part of teams that are promoted into the historical league with recalc on, their defensive ratings are given severe adjustments downward over time. After a season or two they all become 0's or 1's (1-10 scale) and lose all defensive abilities. Reproducible? Yes I had expected fictional players to be able to exist within a recalc league, and they'd just be ignored by it. It appears if you have recalc on with fictional players, it's just not compatible.

Actually, you might want to post in Technical. Someone would have to run a test to see if there was a bug. I can think of reasons why some fictionals might have significant rating changes in this situation, but not why it would happen to all of them.

I think it has something to do with fictional players coming to the historical league. There are no fielding ratings/stats in the database when it comes time for the recalc in the historcal league, so the game just makes them terrible. Players in the fictional league have no recalc so they will remain with the fielding stats assigned when created. I hope this makes sense.

Which means what, exactly? If you have a player who extends in the game past his historical retirement, do his ratings go all screwy because there is nothing to recalc from? And why would it affect only fielding?

Recalc reads from a (non-existant for fictional players) historical Lahman file.
Non-Recalc uses the standard OOTP player development engine. You can have development on and recalc on at the same time but you may get highly unusual statisical results. Historical players that play beyond their career end pretty much keep the ratings of thier last real life year but ageing eventually wears them down, Unless you have both development and recalc on of course. Then it's a crapshoot. |

![]() Be that as it may, the OP appears to have discovered a definite bug that got into OOTP10 at some point. Fielding was kind of left in a rather ragged state at the conclusion of beta, so maybe we are starting to see some consequences from that. |
