Historical Voluntary Volunteers?

The historical team that creates the neutralized stats for OOTP is down to a single member. If this person should immolate themselves in hellfire and damnation as is his want OOTP might experience a neutered stats outage. This would be an unacceptable unacceptableismic occurance if it occured occurrently. Plus a team of one really isn't much of a team.

Therefore I am looking for a couple of volunteers to house copies of the Ms-Access db that creates neutralized stats, creates the games draft values as well as career and seasonal fielding ratings.

You need to be
A) fairly conversant with Ms-Access and interested in housing a copy of the db
OR
B) even just willing to help on the next historical db OOTP project that surfaces
OR
C) Jessica Alba

Do you need 24/7 access via a website or something or just someone to throw it on a DVD as a backup? And how large is the database? I don't have MS Access but I do have Open Office which I believe has an Access type of program. But I'll admit I know almost nothing about working with databases.

Fill me in with what we need to do. My work has been crazy lately, and I have a few other commitments (most of all my one year old daughter) but I find it hard to say no to OOTP.

And Spritze and Gambo? That's like 2/5th of the Superfriends right there. My database skills are very high. I also have webspace and MySQL. So if I can help in any way, I'm here.

We need a few people to just house copies of the db as far as that part goes. I will build a menu for the app when the next Lahman gets released to make things even easier. Then I'll put it on my FTP site and give the three of you access to it.

The program neuters the current year Lahman stats and then appends them to the previous versions of the neutered stats. It also reruns the career fielding and draft values for all active players as those change every year. Those values get added or updated as necessary. I am going to unhook the pitch repertoire generator as those should be updated by the 2010 roster makers or BMW instead of the program. There will be no current year data for pitch repertoires. All the previous repertoires will be there.

The basic reason to do this is so more than a single person will have access to this program. Just because you never know, you know? The program is fairly large (663 mb) as it does quite a lot of calculating. It takes less than a minute for it to crunch a seasons worth of Lahman data and export the results as the necessary CSV files that get sent to Markus.

The impetus that resulted in my realizing this needed doing was Garlons sabbattical and my exes attempt at murderating me (unsuccessfully I might add although maybe that is sorta self evident evidenturally). If Garlon had stayed gone and I had stayed dead it might have put a tiny crimp in historical neutralized play.

So, more people in the pool, eh!

Glad to hear you're ok. Will you need us to put it on a website you'll have 24/7 access to or do you just want us to put it on a DVD or our hard drive in case it's needed?

Just need some other places to store it on a hard drive so it can be accessed if needed.

Spritze, you know I'd love to help, particularly in getting the fielding formulas fixed in neutralized stats, so I can quit b**tching about them and start playing the game. I am however a database moron, who uses Open Office, which does not allow for full access to MS Access files. Let me know if there's anything I can do, like testing out the efforts of the Access Warriors and offering feedback on what I'm seeing in the game or anything else, that doesn't require technical brilliance. Thanks.

Reyes Catcher Range Factor is between 5.83 and 7.31 in the "new" unofficial neutered stats depending on the year. If Garlon approves, the changes may be in OOTP11. Bottom Line is the challenge is probably fixed. I'll send you a copy for testing since I don't think the results are propriatary stuff. Only the formulas to make the neutered fielding stats might be. Maybe other challenges hide within and are equally fixable.
Give me a week or so as I am working 7 day weeks right now. Good moneytarily but bad funitarily.

Just the Reyes highlighted part alone is great news. Re: second highlighted part, I can most assuredly assure you that other challenges do hide within, but I think with the proper conversion formulae, these can be addressed as well. I don't need to see the possibly proprietary formulae, which would probably only make my head explode anyway, possibly damaging my monitor, keyboard etc. Just the knowledge that it's being worked on and the possibility that I might be able to take them for a test spin eventually, is well...frankly awesome. Good luck with the 7 day a week thing and once again: 1) Thankyou for all you do around here and 2) Let me know if there's anything that I, in my luddism can assist with.

There is now available a semi-more-or-less-sorta tested fix for the fielding2.csv file.

I'll send it to any interested parties who are interested in partying with it in the interests of testing the party of the first parts part.
