Every player imported as horrible fielder

I am trying to run a historical league starting in 1903 using a random debut db (Sandman's, I believe). I ran through 1903 with very believable stats. However I had to scrap it for an unrelated issue (fictional players were imported for year 2).

Now whenever I restart the league every player imported has poor defensive ratings. I simmed a couple of weeks and each team averaged roughly 10 errors a game. I've played around with the import settings but nothing seems to work. Anyone have any ideas of something I may be missing?

While that is a little high, I would wait till you play a complete season.
Each game (in that time period) should have a bunch of errors (4+), compared to modern standards.

My replay for 1901-1910, showed each team within 5% (using the latest Gambo db), usually on the low side. Of course some players will be way out of wack, when they play more at a position then they really did (Stuffy McInnis in my replay made 206 at SS in one season and 80 at 2b in another, when IRL he only played a handfull of games at either position in his career and none during either of those seasons.

The computer manager must of felt his bat was well worth the lack of fielding at those positions for those seasons, since the rest, he played his proper position, while coming close to matching his real life fielding stats.

[a footnote on Stuffy - in the replay he played SS in his rookie year, then was at 1b for 7 season (6 as the starting 1b), then the computer team drafted a new 1b (Jim Bottemely), and moved Stuffy to 2b for half a year. After the error filled season at 2b, he was traded, where he returned to 1b on his new team]

Thats my 2 cents.......

Thanks for your response. I do realize error #'s were higher during that era, but this is really out of whack. The leader had about 60 errors after about 20 games!

In fact, I went into the editor for numerous players and I found that their defensive stats were all 0 (except a few I saw with ratings under 5 on a scale of 0 to 250). There was clearly an issue with the import.

Which I think I identified -- the latest patch seems to have introduced additional files (*2.csv) for batting, pitching and fielding. I think these are simply the same as the non *2 tables, sorted alphabetically instead of chronologically. I am trying to figure out how to sort an excel table with over 100,000 records to create these files.

Can anyone confirm that these *2 tables are just resorts of the original tables?

Anyone have any thoughts on sorting .csv files larger than excel's limit (65k rows)? I'm trying to use Access without success as yet. I can resort, but export from excel seems to ignore the sort.

Thanks,

Dave

the *2.csv files are NOT RESORTS they are neutralized stats which will be used if you run a neutralizational league. They are required to exist even if you don't use them as is the uni.csv file.

Excel is OUT as it has a row limit and resorting in Access will work as long as when you export your sorted query you export as CSV and not XLS.

Once exported don't open in Excel as that will mess the file up unless you have Excel 2009 which allows for more rowifications and so won't mess a large file up unless it is very large like an uber file or something.

Thanks, Spritze, you saved me a lot of work.

I've tried both blank "*2" files and copies of the main files, hoping this would work as I'm not using neutralized stats. However all of my imported players still have 0 ratings for fielding and experience.

Any ideas how I can create these files, or why they're even needed? Bear in mind I'm using a random debut db so I couldn't just copy someone else's. I had no problems with imported players using this db prior to the latest patch.

Thanks...

If'n you ain't gonna use em they just need to exist, don't make no nevermind as to what's in em.

Since you still have troubles I suspect a challenge in your fielding.csv file. OOTP wants it to be sorted alpha then year assending. In your earlier posts you intimated you were sorta sorting. Don't do that sorta sorting thing.

If you have Excel 2007 or later, there are no row limits.

However as Sprize indicated, sorting the .csv files is a no-no.

My fielding.csv file was sorted alphabetically by player id then by year. However I went to the stats directory and found it is sorted chronologically, then by player id. So I found a pc with excel 2007 and sorted it -- same result.

Prior to that, I hadn't sorted a thing. Sandman's random db worked great up until the latest patch. Perhaps I'll try the tech support forum.
