BZ 3372: Text scouting reports differ from scouted ratings

This is a problem with ootp9 also. I've noted it before, but it doesn't get much traction; Am I the only person w/ this problem.

Specifically, player rating numbers and stars are not always in sync w/ the written scouting reports; eg, Player A is 4 stars w/ high contact/power/etc...but the written scouting report says "Simply hopeless at the plate..."

This happens w/ about 20-30% of high star players. (My Scout is highly rated, but this shouldn't make any difference; the words and numbers should be consistent)

Well, sometimes multiple factors go into why a scout says what he says about a player. For example, a player may be a 10 contact hitter (1-10 scale), but if he's a 1 eye and 1 strikeouts, chances are the scout will say he can't hit.

Also, sometimes doing an OSA rescout will get the scouting reports to match up with the ratings. Usually you'd only need to do this if you've edited the player.

Agree. Not looking for perfection here - I like some ambiguity - but if my Scout gives me a report that numerically rates a minor lgr 7-7-7, 5-stars...and then says "Simply hopeless at the plate...", I'd fire the guy...or conclude that their is some coding glitch in the program

Teak, do you have a specific example or screenshot that you could post?

What type of league is this? Historical? MLB? Fictional?

Thanks!

Steve

Sure ...except that I have no idea how to copy a screen shot from the game. Is it easy?

This is not a bug, just the way specific categories were written believe it or not this is being worked on.

This is the problem with a lot of the descriptions, they have to be carefully written and you have to keep in mind categories that are related.

I stopped reading the reports long ago because of this. All I use my scout for anymore is to get my attention towards a player (star rating) than I just shortlist the player and monitor them for myself keeping an eye on their stats.

But it sounds like others note the same problem. So, my final say on this...

...I understand that the various ratings (contact vs eye vs speed, etc) interact in mysterious ways to give an overall rating, but when that overall rating is, for instance, 5-stars, the written summary shouldn't say "Simply hopeless at the plate..." or such. If the AI, as filtered through the lens of my Scout, rates the player 5-stars, the words should back it up; or vice versa. I'm not suggesting that the scouting report be accurate (I like a bit of real world randomness/ambiguity/mistakes) ...just that the words and numbers match.

However, since the minor league DL thing got fixed (my biggest complaint), I'm well satisfied

The Numbers Don't Add Up!

It is more than just that. The numbers don't match up. Look at this pitcher, in the profile the scouts rates his movement as 45, but tab over to the scouting report and the rating is only 15 or 16.

And he's not an isolated case.

See:
BZ 3268: Different Ratings on Different Screens

Isn't that what you're saying?
It's supposed to be fixed in forthcoming patch.

I'm having the problem with the stars too, but I'm not sure if it's the same issue. Hopefully it is.

Any update as to whether this is still a problem with the latest patch?

It is still a problem. Frankly, I think the scouting system is broken. I am experiencing all kinds of discrepancies even with a maxed out scout and high dollar investment.

To make matters worse, I began to have game crashes during automatic annual OSA scouting. I had to turn off scouting to get the game date to advance. When I try to turn it back on it crashes again.

Anyway, I'm just playing now with scouting turned off. I prefer the game with scouting so I hope they fix it soon.

The mismatch between profile and scouting tabs is still an issue.
The player ratings getting poor text descriptions in scouting is there too, but I only rarely see it.

Not to be annoying, but you are responding to the entirety of the question, right? 10.2.15? Just need to make certain.

Hi guys,

I have logged the original issue as BZ 3372. That is, the fact that the text scouting reports sometimes show text that completely differs from the scouted ratings.

The discrepancy between the ratings on the profile vs the scouting page has been logged separately as noted above.

Thanks,

Steve
