BZ 3422: Database::Load_Database - could not load the names file

I was saving my game while doing other things on my pc, when I got the blue screen of death on VISTA???? never seen it before.

I load my game and league and get this error?
Database::Load_Database - could not load the names file

please MARKUS or someone please tell me there is a fix.

I have played game by game 63 games and rebuilt my team.
I am having so much fun and getting ready for the draft.
I know I will put this game down if I have to start over???

PLEASE!!!
I can send my file somewhere if need be I know it is big but I can upload to sendspace or somewhere.

Sorry dude, but I have suffered this same fate. I am even more sorry to say that it doesn't look like there is a solution.

I too play game by game. I have researched the whole backup and restore process, which I know I should have been utilizing before. I was saving in the interim which turns out not to mean much when the whole database corrupts and goes down.

I have sworn off the game more than once for this very issue, but here I am waiting for the patch to start anew.

Hi folks,

Thanks for your post, and sorry for the delay in getting back to you. The first few weeks after the release are always pretty busy around here!

I guess I have to start out with the obvious question and ask if you have a backup of your league file? It appears that some files were corrupted when your game crashed in the middle of saving, and yes, I'm uncertain if we'll be able to do anything to restore them.

That said, I will ask Markus to take a look, but please try to get us a copy of your league files (just the .dats) using the info in this thread.

I cannot recommend highly enough for anyone out there that you always back up your league files regularly, for precisely this sort of situation.

Folks, I'd love to help you guys out with this issue, but I cannot do anything unless someone can get us a copy of your league files (just the .dats) using the info in this thread.

I have gotten the same error multiple times with the messages.dat file. I imported the 2005 league that came with one of the versions to manage minors and it has crashed multiple tries with this file for some reason and with none of my other leagues.

Ramzavail, just curious, the file you uploaded errors out for me with an error in the players file, not the names file like the original poster mentioned. Is this the same behavior you get?

The only new information I can give is that I started a whole new NABA league - simmed for a few years and then eventually the error would happen again (players file) while I was playing in depth (trading, waiver moves, playing via pitch by pitch) for about 1 game year. It would gradually get worse though. I'd save the game, no error. I'd close the game and it would go to save, I'd get the error and it wouldn't save and close the game. But I'd be able to open the game and play from where I saved. Did that a few times over the course of months within the game (days in real life) but then eventually it wouldn't be able to open the game and it would say corrupt and that would be it. So now I have two NABA league files, if you want me to zip that as well and ftp it, I can.
