BZ 3369: Photos must be in two filename formats in Linux

Installed a facepack from the mods directory (from padresfan) into (savedgame)/news/html/images, but was not seeing faces.

After some experimentation, it seems as though I'm only seeing photos when I have 2 copies of the file in the directory, one properly cased, one lower cased. i.e.

kenji_johjima.jpg
Kenji_Johjima.jpg

I'm up to experimenting further if need be, just let me know.

I'm running with the first OOTP X patch installed (10.1.14). Running Ubuntu, latest release.

Confirmed here, Fedora 11. Also note that the properly cased/lower case pairs do not need to be in the same folder: I have the properly cased bunch in config/photos and copied them to config/saved_games/[name].lg/news/html/images, then ran a Bash script on that directory to get them lower case, and now I copy the pictures between saved games. With only the properly cased pictures, the game will recognize that players have pictures, because the team logo will get replaced with the generic player photo. It will also copy (why it copies instead of making symlinks is beyond me) these pictures to the saved games directory. But you need to run the to-lower-case script on the saved games directory to get the game to actually load the pictures.

In summary:
  • It needs properly cased photos to recognize that "This player has a picture".
  • But when it tries to actually load and display the photos, it looks for lower case file names in the directory config/saved_games/[name].lg/news/html/images

Hi guys,

Thanks for your posts, and sorry for the delay in getting back to you. The first few weeks after the release are always pretty busy around here!

I have logged this as bug 3369, and we'll get the boys to take a look at it. Thanks for researching this issue so thoroughly (hallmark of Linux users, I guess ).
