BZ 3361: Pitcher injured on inning ending play

I know there was a crash problem with this scenario, but I have a different problem. My pitcher is pitching and injured on an inning ending play. The game requires me to immediately pick a substitute before play can proceed. As manager I should not have to pick a sub until the pitcher slot is due to bat or my team returns to the field and a new pitcher must be selected. In my situation the pitcher was due to bat 4th in the inning and I had the dliemna of deciding whether to insert a PH or a relief pitcher in that slot.

I thought this was logged, but couldn't find it, so have opened BZ 3361 for this.

Tony, we can merge 3406 with this if you like, but I don't think this should be reserved to an inning-ending situation. I'm not sure that the philosophy of the substitution timing should not apply in all out situations.

I don't know if this is appropriate (sorry if it is not).

I can confirm this problem. It happened to me today. The game proceeded normally (i.e. no crash), but the problem I had was that the pitcher was due to come up in the lineup and I had to replace him with a pitcher to end the inning so I could come to bat.

In retrospect, I should have put the pinch hitter in as a 'pitcher' and then replaced him later.

THis same problem happened to me last week. I made the substitution because I had to, so I put in a hitter (not wanting to sacrifice a pitcher). My situation was a little worse because that inning happened to be the inning my team took the lead, so the hitter (who never even threw a pitch or went to the mound) got the win for the game.

Talk about an easy win!
