Questdog's Era Appropriate Names

I'm in the process of making the world famous Questdog's Era Appropriate Names work for OOTP 10. If anyone has any suggestions I would like to hear them.

This will not just be a port of the old names; it will be a revised set.

By the way, the biggest pain in the rumpus in doing name lists is all the idiots with more than one capital letter in their last name. There should be a law: only one capital allowed unless surname begins with " Mc " or " O' ". All these derned DeBarges and LeFleurs are ANNOYING...

If anyone knows how or where I could obtain a copy of the list of names from the Census Bereau spelled with the correct capitalization and punctuation, I would be eternally grateful...

Unfortunately, all the lists I have seen are in all caps with no punctuation.

Glad to see that you are making a revised set to work with OOTPX. I took the liberty of revising the historic set in your previous version to work with OOTPX. Not by any means as extensive as what you did but it works for me. I used Access to mass edit the historical name set to (39).

Thought I'd let everyone know that I'm still working on this project. I tried for a week to find a list of names with proper capitalization and punctuation, but failed. I even called the Census Bureau. So, for the past week, I have been editing the lists by hand. Very tedious....

Alright, here's the semi-annual weekly update on Questdog's Amazing Time Traveling Nameset of names....

I have completed the modern American names (Group 0).....

woo-hoo!!

I had to edit 125,000+ last names by hand....

I have separated African-American names from their European-American brethren and plan to use the Historical slot (Group 39) for their home unless someone has an objection....

I am now working on the African-American name list. I have the surnames listed and am now editing them for punctuation and capitalization (I really hate doing this by hand....)

Looking forward, I need some way to compile a good list of first names. The government does not give ethnic data for their first name list like they do for the surnames....

OK....

I have completed the work for a good set of modern names and sent it off to PadresFan's site.

These files represent over 200 hours of work....

Completely new set of US names (both Caucasian and African-American as separate sets), Hispanic names, and Japanese names, plus a new list of Korean names that I wasn't planning on doing, but found the data by accident, so I stuck it in there.

Over 150,000 new quality names that any mother would be proud to stick on her baby's behind....

Please check it out and report any errors or omissions.

Thank you.

(Now I'll start work on the historic sets, but don't hold your breath...)

I can't find it on PadresFan's website. Is it up yet for anyone else? If so, where?

I found a typo that you need to correct, if you've already downloaded the file from PadresFan's site.

In the ethnicities.txt file, way down at the bottom, is the line for ethnicity #39 U.S. (Historical):

39,U.S. (Historical),100,0,0,0,0,

That 100 should be 1000....just add a zero and re-import the file into your game.

Padresfan has already posted a corrected file on his site, so you can download it, if you'd rather do that.

Sorry for the inconvenience....

Let me know of any other errors I have made pronto, so we can get them corrected!
