Looks great, but I'd add a little more contrast to the text so it stands out more. The single letter in the background can stay as is, if that faded in the background look is what you want.

Thanks. The glossy image seemed to be messing with the contrast. I wanted the backround faded with front darker. Here are my most recent ones where I played with the gradient.

I don't know if you have a vector based program or not, but this is what I do...

First I make the shield shape then I clone it and cut it in half.

Then I take the left half, make it white and change the transparency to 80%. I trash the right half.

Place my image or text on the logo and the transparent half over the top.

So what I have is what looks like light coming from the left. So I need to have a shadow on the right. If you add shadowing, you need to account for the logo size change, so just shink it down some. I usually make my logos at 148pix with the outside 2pix transparent.

I hope some of this is helpful. Anyway, this is what it looks like in the end...

Thanks justafan. What you said was very similar to what I was doing except making the shadow opposite from the glossy side. This is the first time I really got into playing with some logos. Thanks for the tips.

What editor do you use for logos? I can make up a Template for you in Photoshop with some of the little tweaks I like to do.

I use inkscape. If you can make a template that would be cool. I tried a bunch of logos I made, half of them didn't work well for the small logos, oh well, You should have seen the first uni's I ever made. Talking about horrible.

I like your stuff and any help would be awesome.

Can you attach the template image you used for the 'shield' shape for these logos?

I created a PSD Template for a neat Shield Logo. In theory all you'd need to do is change the Color Layer and add whatever text you wanted. But I tested in Inkscape (i'm not very proficient with Inkscape at all yet) and couldn't open a PSD. I then saved it as a PNG and opened in Inkscape, but I couldnt change the Color at all without messing up the effects. Im guessing that Inkscape doesnt work with Layers at all?

I'll post the PNG of the Template in the next reply.

The PNG will be 300x300 pixels, as thats the size I work in. I reduce the finished work to 150x150.

Thats awesome! I use inkscape and paint.net(good old free stuff) and import/export from each other. Paint.net has the layers, I am still learning about inkscape. Thanks for the help.

Well, if paint.net can handle Layers, I'll post the PSD for you.

I usually work in 300x300 and reduce it to 150x150 when Im done, but the 300 version was too large to attach here, so I reduced it to 150.

Here ya go...
